There are 7 New Power Locations in Crimson Desert. Defeating all New Power bosses is needed for the “Primal Frenzy” exploration Challenge and Beast Slayer trophy & achievement. It’s also one of the requirements for the Expert Explorer trophy & achievement.
The New Power category won’t appear in the challenge menu until you reach Chapter 12, regardless of how many of the bosses you defeat beforehand. Once the category appears it will retroactively count any you had already dealt with. Some bosses can be fought at any time, but most require doing faction quests in the region where they are located.
Challenges Overview:
New Power #1: King of Corpses (Skevald, the Carrion King)
Skevald, the Carrion King is a hyena that is found in the Crimson Desert. To fight it, you first need to pick up a bounty notice located in Tashkalp Town (Tommaso) and read it. This will then give you the Faction Quest Skevald, the Carrion King in the Crimson Desert > Lords of Unclaimed Lands section.
This will then mark the quest location at the Hyena Den which is southeast of the Tashkalp town. You will likely need to use your lantern as prompted by the game to follow the tracks, as the boss and its pack of hyenas will walk around the area in a loop.
Skevald can be tougher than you would expect due to the large number of other enemies around it, along with the fact it deals poison damage to you. Try to clear out all of the other hyenas first before fighting it directly to make it easier. After you empty the blue health bar it will run away, and you will need to track it again with your lantern. You should be able to find it walking around on the same path again. Drain its health bar again to complete the quest and receive 1x Putrid Touch and 1x Abyss Artifact.
New Power #2: Dark Shadow (Black Fang)
Black Fang is a large wolf that is found in Hernand. To fight it, you will first need to complete a large amount of the possible Hernand Faction Quests related to the houses and towns throughout the region. Eventually, you’ll receive the quest group Legendary Wolf in the Hernand > House Celeste section.
After speaking with the soldier at Hernand North Gate, you’ll receive the quest Howls from the North Gate which marks a location nearby. Go to it, and in the general area there will be a large group of wolves, along with the boss Black Fang.
Fighting Black Fang isn’t very hard, as it fights more like a human opponent than a wolf, so you can block and parry its melee attacks. After you empty the blue health bar it will run away, and you can make your way west toward the location Howling Hollow where you will find it again. It may be up the path farther west instead of in the cave area itself. You can use your lantern to spot the tracks where it is. Defeat it here to complete the associated quest and receive Leebur’s Soul (grants knowledge of all Legendary Animals), 1x Shadow Claw, and 1x Abyss Artifact.
New Power #3: Spirit Shepherd (White Horn, Shepherd of Souls)
White Horn is a giant yeti-like monster that is found in Pailune. To fight it, you will first need to complete all of the Faction Quests in the Pailune Militia category (so you will be able to fight this almost immediately after being able to fight Karanda). Once you finish all Pailune Militia quests the next set you are given is related to the Skoghorn Tribe. The first quest Deep-Rooted Sorrow directs you to speak with some people in the village of Skoghorn, then after talking to them you are given the quest White Horn of Snowhaven Hearth which directs you to the location of the boss, near Snowhaven Hearth on the western edge of the map.
White Horn is a large slow monster. Throughout most of the fight you can easily dodge its attacks and attack it from behind. It takes lots of damage from fire attacks, so use Elemental Imbued attacks with Fire if you have it unlocked. The most notable thing about the boss is that it has 3 health bars, and on the final health bar a familiar monster from the story will appear and start attacking the boss too. Once you defeat it you will receive White Horn’s Earring, 1x Frost Hail, and 1x Abyss Artifact. You can then go complete the rest of the Skoghorn quest.
New Power #4: Ruler of the Northern Sky (Karanda)
Karanda is a giant harpy that is found in Pailune. To fight it, you will first need to complete most of the initial Faction Quests in the Pailune Militia category (24/27). Once you’ve done this, you will automatically obtain the quest Queen of the Skies, at the same time as receiving another boss related quest Hunting Red. Queen of the Skies points you directly to the location Harpy Nest on top of the mountain in the middle of Pailune. Make your way there to find the boss, along with a large group of smaller harpies.
Karanda will fly around the top of the mountain, shooting ranged attacks at you, then dive at you and hover around the platform for a bit. You can try to shoot it with ranged attacks while it is flying, or just dodge its attacks and wait for it to fly at you, then attack it with melee before it moves. It doesn’t have a ton of health, so you can aim and shoot at it with arrows when it isn’t moving to deal damage. You can ignore the other smaller harpies, they don’t really do anything during the fight, and will all disappear once you defeat the boss. Once you drain its single health bar it flies away, and you are awarded with Eye of the Sky (gives all knowledge in Tribal State of Pailune category), 1x Pillar of Wind, and 1x Infinite Arrows II.
New Power #5: Entangled Crisis (Queen Spider)
The Queen Spider is a giant spider that is found in Hernand. To fight it, you first need to complete Faction Quests. It seems to appear around the time you complete both House Roberts and House Alfonso’s sets of quests, which are available one after the other. If it doesn’t appear, try also completing any of the one-off House Serkis quests that also become available. Once you can fight the boss, you will have the quest Queen’s Nest available in the House Celeste section, which points you to Arboria Castle. The outside is covered in small spiders that explode when you damage them, you can ignore them and make your way through the castle to where the boss is located.
The boss itself doesn’t have any unique mechanics. It will climb all over the walls and spit poison at you, then will summon more small spiders throughout the fight. Hitting it with Fire is especially helpful as it will immediately burn and fall to the ground, allowing you to damage it easily. Defeating it awards the boots “Stirrups of the Open Sky”, 1x Queen’s Fans, and 1x Abyss Artifact.
New Power #6: Immense Beauty (Queen Stoneback Crab)
The Queen Stoneback Crab is a giant Oreback Crab that is found in Delesyia. To fight it, you first need to complete the quest The Wolf’s Ballad which will appear at the Redfox Trading Post north of the City of Delesyia.
After this is completed you will receive the quest The Queen’s Lake which directs you to the location Stoneback Crab Wetlands directly north of the Redfox Trading Post. Go to the location and walk into the center of the clearing to trigger a cutscene, which will cause the boss to appear.
To defeat the Oreback Crab, you need to get on its back. Using Turning Slash skill (
+
), hit the white Diamond crystals to destroy them, revealing green weak spots. Press crouch to cling to the back of the crab, then while over top hold heavy attack
to charge up, then release to stab, and press again to pull your knife out to deal large amounts of damage. There are three of these green weak spots to hit.
After you stab the three weak spots this depletes the first boss health bar. For the second health bar you just need to hit the stack of brown pots on its back until it dies. You’ll then be rewarded with 1x Abyss Artifact and whatever materials were knocked off the Oreback Crab and sent to your private storage, as well as liberating the location. Also make sure to finish off the quest chain to have Diederik return to the Greymane camp.
New Power #7: Dangerous Sparkle (Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab)
The Queen Bismuth Oreback Crab is a giant Oreback Crab that is found in the Crimson Desert Region. It is located directly south of the location Well of Enlightenment and can be fought at any time by going to this location.
To defeat the Oreback Crab, you need to get on its back, same as the Queen Oreback Crab. Using Turning Slash (
+
), hit the crystal sections to destroy them, revealing white weak spots. Press crouch to cling to the back of the crab, then while over the top hold heavy attack
to charge up, then release to stab, and press again to pull your knife out to deal large amounts of damage. There are three of these white spots to hit.
After you stab the three weak spots this depletes the first health bar. For the second health bar you just need to hit the stack of brown pots on its back until it dies. You’ll then be rewarded with 30x Bismuth Ore and 1x Abyss Artifact, as well as liberating the location.

Do you remember which quest you completed right before being given it? It might then just require completing a specific one, not all of them.
