To remove the spear from the Dragon & Hold on atop the trashing dragon’s back is an objective in Crimson Desert, Chapter 9, Main Quest: Shackles of Fate. This is the first time you ride a dragon in the game, and the controls to catch and fly the dragon can be rather confusing.
Step 1: Go to the quest marker on the bridge atop “Great Gate of Urdavah”. You can quickly get there from the fast travel point atop Urdavah Mountain from the previous quest.
Step 2: Once you arrive near the bridge, in the bottom right corner you will get the “Wait” prompt. Hold Options-Button / ESC (PC) to wait. Then you get a tutorial that explains what buttons to press, and the dragon will spawn in the distance. If you fail to catch the dragon you can “Wait” again to retry as many times as needed.
Step 3: Wait on top of the bridge. When the dragon is getting close to the bridge, jump down and glide in the air with your wings (press Square / X / Spacebar). WHILE gliding use Axiom Force to hit the dragon with it (hold L3 / Left Stick / ‘TAB’ key on PC). You should see a blue impact zone where you aim, and you must be close to the dragon because Axiom Force has limited range of a few meters. That’s why you need to fly close to him. As soon as you hit the dragon with Axiom Force (blue glowing line), press Square / X / ‘TAB’ to mount the dragon. The Axiom Force line will briefly glow red if done correctly, and you land on the dragon’s back. The timing is very finicky with this, sometimes the line from Axiom Force will break and you fall down, in which case press the ‘Wait’ button again in midair before you hit the ground. It can take a few tries.
Step 4: If done correctly you will now be mounted on the dragon’s back. You get the subobjective “Hold on atop the trashing dragon’s back” as displayed at the bottom of the screen. Simply stay seated on the dragon and whenever it tries to throw you off (does barrel rolls or flies up/down fast), hold L2/LT/Q to ‘Resist’. You don’t need upgraded stamina for this, if you do it correctly the starting stamina amount is enough to make it. You need to hold on for about 2 minutes until you get a tutorial popup to use Focused Force Palm. The dragon will try to throw you off twice during this. Don’t hold the ‘Resist’ prompt the entire time, as it drains your stamina, only hold it when the dragon tries to throw you off.
Step 5: Once you get a tutorial popup about Focused Force Palm, use it by holding L3 + R3 > hold R3 / Left Stick + Right Stick > hold Right Stick / Hold ‘X’ key > hold Mousewheel. You must hit the golden glowing dot on the dragon that appears when the screen turns blue from aiming Focused Force Palm at it.
Doing this will remove the spears from the dragon’s back and you get a cutscene, after which the quest is finished.
