There are 5 Cannon Challenges in Crimson Desert. They are part of the Mastery Category. Finishing all Cannon Challenges unlocks the Master of Artillery trophy & achievement.
The Hand Cannon (or Blaster) is the ranged weapon used by Oongka and cannot be used by other characters, so all of these challenges must be completed while playing as him. He can first be played temporarily at the end of Chapter 7 of the story, then you must completed two Faction Quests to make him available to play as for the rest of the game. Gentle Sound of Flowing River is available immediately in Chapter 8 and involves fishing with Oongka. After this is completed and either resting or teleporting (you can also try restarting the game) Oognka should appear at Calphade castle and when you interact with him you will be able to start the quest Arm Wrestling Tips/How to Distribute Strength. After completing these, Oognka is available as a playable character for the remainder of the game.
Challenges Overview:
Barraging Cannon 1
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Delesyia, on side of the road immediately west of Redfox Trading Post.

- Challenge: Hit 3 enemies at once with a Hand Cannon.
- How to Complete: As started, hit at least 3 enemies with one Hand Cannon shot. The shots have splash damage on them, so you just have to get enemies close to each other and fire. You can also use Charged Shots with Imbued Element on them to deal more damage in a larger area.
- Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Steelbane I
Barraging Cannon 2
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Demeniss, on the side of the road northwest of Silvermoon Tradehouse.

- Challenge: Defeat 3 enemies with normal, Fire, Ice, Lighting, and Wind Enhanced Charged Shots.
- How to Complete: You unlock the different elemental damages by completing Abyss Puzzles (flying sky islands). Charged shot on the Hand Cannon functions the same as while using the Bow with Kliff, where you can select the Element to imbue, then after unlocking Elemental Charged Shot in the skill tree you can imbue charged shots with the selected element. Note though unlike with Kliff’s bow and Damiane’s gun the charged shot on the Hand Cannon requires you to hold the input for a few seconds for it to fully charge, represented by a small “flash” at the front of the cannon.
To unlock all elements for used with Elemental Charged Shot, you need to complete 4 Abyss locations: Courtyard of Precision, Path of Trials, Tree of Slumber, and Riddle Square. Riddle Square is the final area available, able to be completed starting in Chapter 9. - Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Greater Destruction
Barraging Cannon 3
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Delesyia, at intersection southeast of Sweetbloom Plantation.

- Challenge: Defeat 10 enemies within 30 seconds using a hand cannon without destroying any surrounding objects.
- How to Complete: As started, you need to defeat a total of 10 enemies within 30 seconds with the Hand Cannon WITHOUT destroying any objects in the area. This can be a bit tough depending on the area you are doing it, but in most large enemy camps you can alert enemies and then walk them away from the main area, and then deal with them on a road or field where there aren’t items that can be destroyed. You can also destroy objects in an area before defeating any of the enemies, as long as you don’t destroy any after defeating the first one.
- Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Greater Swift
Barraging Cannon 4
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Delesyia, on the side of the road leading south from Windrose Farm, southeast of N in DEWHAVEN map text.

- Challenge: Defeat a mounted enemy from a distance of 30 meters or more using a hand cannon.
- How to Complete: This challenge is one of the most annoying in the game and seems to be somewhat buggy currently, or the requirement is incorrectly stated. As far as can be determined you need to defeat an enemy mounted specifically on a horse in one shot using the Hand Cannon. Using Ice Elemental Charged Shot may or may not be required, but seems it can also help for most people when the challenge successfully completes (Ice Element is unlocked from Abyss: Path of Trials).
For this challenge there are two known areas that are easier to complete this with enemies already on horses. The first location is in Crimson Desert at Qudim-jahr Camp which is an out of the way enemy camp south of Great Gate of Urdavah. There are two enemies on horses that will walk in a counterclockwise loop to the southeast of the camp. Make a save before attempting, then stand on the ground to the left of the rock, then try to defeat the enemies hitting them directly with a charged shot. If it doesn’t unlock, you can run away and immediately teleport back to the Abyss Nexus, then run back which should spawn the enemies on horses again. You can try this a bunch of times in a row to see if the Challenge completes, or reload if it doesn’t.

If this location doesn’t work, the next you could try is in Hernand, northwest of Bloodsteel North Gate if you hadn’t cleared the area. At the intersection there are two enemies that appear on horseback, and shooting them from north of the intersection should be enough distance. These enemies may not respawn by warping back to the Abyss Nexus though.

The final location you can try if you cleared both of these is the same as is recommended for Damiane’s horseback requirement, at Thornbriar Fortress after clearing it during the story. Swing your weapon at the friendly NPCs to make them hostile, then try to get some distance and shoot the soldiers that ride around on horseback within the fortress.

- Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Faded Abyss Artifact, 1x Steelbane II
Barraging Cannon 5
- How to Unlock: Pick up Sealed Abyss Artifact in Crimson Desert, on the north side of the road on the west edge of Tommaso.

- Challenge: Destroy 2 Watchtowers with a Hand Cannon within 10 seconds.
- How to Complete: Watchtowers are found in larger enemy camps, fortresses, and sometimes as part of quests. The easiest way to guarantee destroying watchtowers is to use Charged Shot on its own, or use Focused Shot and mark multiple towers to fire multiple shots at once.
In Pailune there is an enemy camp named Northern Pailune Bandit Camp, north of the City of Pailune that includes three smaller watchtowers on posts. These can be used for this challenge, and respawn when the camp has been taken over and still count toward the requirement even when it is a friendly location. If you destroy them while the camp is friendly they will eventually reappear after around a week passes in-game.

- Reward: 1x Abyss Artifact, 1x Shatter I

I was playing Oongka for the story, and decided to try the watchtower challenge and I cannot break one for some reason. I am using L2, tried with charged shots, and shot about 20 cannon balls and cannot break them. Is this an issue or is there a skill I need?
I’m using the default Orc Blaster he has which has 22 attack, and I have no trouble breaking them on Kliff with the bow

Fire infused Charge shot does the trick. U have to charge it a bit tho
hodini16 says
I don’t know if you figured it out yet but I found that holding L2 then pressing R2 destroyed them most consistently
As says
Switched to Oongka and he doesn’t have a hand cannon.

For Barraging 4 (and most of the “hitting enemies with a ranged weapon” challenges from both Damiane and Oongka), I found out that the “true” requirement include “hitting the enemy FROM THE BACK”. So if you want to attempt Barraging 4, go to the Taskhalp camp stated in this guide, sneak around and try to get a clean shot ON THE BACK.
