Crimson Desert All Insect Locations (Tiny Citizens of Grasslands)

April 19, 2026 by Gage Leave a Comment

There are 76 Insects / Bugs (Chitinous Creatures) in Crimson Desert. Finding all Bugs is required for the Tiny Citizens of Grasslands challenge, which must be completed for the Natural Collector trophy & achievement.

Insects are divided into 9 categories in the Knowledge menu under Creatures > Chitinous Creatures. The 4 categories of Butterflies have the most entries overall, with other types of bugs being divided into the other 5 categories. While playing through the game it is recommended to always catch any bugs you encounter that display as “???” to save some time later, but you can also obtain most bugs while collecting Butterflies, which is what will take the longest overall.

Before working specifically on bug collection, you should make sure to obtain the Helm of Knowledge and the Kuku Insect Gatherer’s Pack. The Helm of Knowledge is good for cleaning up individual bugs when you only have a handful left, such as if you’re looking for the last couple butterflies, whereas the Kuku Insect Gatherer’s Pack is good for sucking up everything nearby when you have lots available to be collected.

The Insect Gatherer’s Pack is crafted at Kilnden Workshop. You are introduced to the Kuku crafting during Chapter 4 of the story, then you also need to complete the Sanctum of Oblation to unlock the crafting recipe. You can then speak to Grimnir and craft it with the required materials.

You first need to craft a Kuku Pack, which is made using a normal Kuku Pot and certain backpacks. The Peddler’s Pack that it will show by default is one of the easiest to find, but you need to steal it to obtain it. Find an NPC with a pack, then scare them by attacking near them to cause them to drop their pack. You can then equip a Mask to steal the pack before they pick it back up. Then with the Kuku Pack made, you can make the Insect Gather’s Pack using 3x Abyss Cells, and 1 each of the Power Cores, Ore of Resipiscence, and Crown of Shadows. Abyss Cells are the grey orbs that you can pick up after breaking bismuth walls with Focused Force Palm. The Power Cores are dropped by certain Abyss enemies you will encounter throughout the game. If you haven’t actively been grabbing these, they’ll be sent to the Lost Items menu at the Greymane camp and you can claim them from there.

Butterflies

There are 4 categories of butterflies, for contributing a total of 49 of the total 76 bugs. While they are divided into categories that would imply they are found in specific regions, it seems that all butterflies can be found at any location where butterflies can potentially spawn. They generally appear in flowerbeds or areas where pickable plants grow. Because of this, you can obtain all butterflies by running around in northern Pailune through the flowerbeds.

Butterflies most frequently spawn during the day while there is sunny weather, so while searching for butterflies you want to start at around 6AM in-game time or later, and then once you reach around 6PM go sleep for 12 hours to advance to the next day. When you are down to only a handful of butterflies remaining, you can make a save at the start of the day, then reload your save if you don’t find anything to avoid potentially running into bad weather days. Butterflies can also spawn at night, but they are much less frequent so it’s easier to just search during the day.

When you have many to find and are using the Kuku Insect Gatherer’s Pack, you can use the bugs you pick up to give to the children in Pailune. Each bug given gives 10 trust, and when you max trust with a child they will give you a random bug from a specific pool, with some of them seeming to be ones that are slightly rarer to find normally. Otherwise when you need to clear bugs from your inventory you can sell them, donate them as Provisions at camp, or just drop them out of your inventory.

Once you only have a handful of butterflies left to find, it is recommended to switch to the Helm of Knowledge instead of the Insect Gatherer’s Pack to save yourself time on inventory management. You still go through flower fields in the same way, but activate the helm and look for any blue sparkles to show things with available knowledge, and hope it is the remaining butterflies.

Other Bugs

Most other bugs can randomly spawn in similar locations as butterflies, so you should obtain most of them while sucking up butterflies with the Insect Gatherer’s Pack. The exceptions will have more specific locations.

Moths

  • Mountain Moth
  • Silkworm Moth
  • Wild Silkworm Moth

Moths can be obtained randomly in the same locations as butterflies.

Bees and Flies

  • Fruit Fly
  • Medium Fly
  • Hornet
  • Honeybee
  • Bumblebee

The Fruit Fly and Medium Fly are randomly found in the same locations as butterflies, the remaining ones have more specific locations.

Hornet and Honeybee can be found after cutting down trees that have beehives. These can be found on most trees throughout Demeniss. Look for trees that have the large hives and cut them down, then after you see the bee hive pickup on the ground, it will either spawn Hornets or Honeybees that will start attacking you, which you can then pick up. Note that even though all hives are technically beehives, they will still sometimes spawn Hornets.

Bumblebees (and Honeybees) can be found at Pollengarth Apiary located in southern Hernand. On the southwestern side are there are a bunch of hives along the cliffs. You can look near them and sometimes they will have bugs flying around them that you can catch, or destroy them to try to make them appear.

Beetles

  • Rhinoceros Beetle
  • Stag Beetle
  • Palmar Beetle
  • Beetles
  • Longhorn Beetle
  • Jewel Bettle
  • Firefly
  • Water Strider

Most beetles are found sitting on the sides of trees, which you can collect manually or will be picked up when you are using the Insect Gatherer’s Pack.

Palmar Beetles can be potentially obtained from gifting insects to children, or picked up in any Palmar Leaf patch, such as the one located on the north side of Pororin Village.

Fireflies are only obtainable at night, but appear in any flowerbed location and can be spotted by the light they give off.

Water Striders can be found on most bodies of water near the shore.

Arthropods

  • Scorpion
  • Spider
  • Yellow Garden Spider
  • Golden Silk Spider
  • Centipede
  • House Centipede

Arthropods can be found on the ground in most outdoor locations, with the exception being the Scorpion which seems to only be found in the Crimson Desert, but is very common in that region.

Other

  • Grasshopper
  • Camel Cricket
  • Dragonfly
  • Cockroach
  • Snail

All “other” bugs are very commonly found in the same locations as butterflies. Snails appear on trees in the same manner as beetles.
