Footsteps of Giants is the 21th main story mission in Borderlands 3 (BL3). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Footsteps of Giants Main Quest.
Footsteps of Giants is unlocked when you complete The First Vault Hunter.
Planet: Nekrotafeyo
Area: Desolation’s Edge
Quest Giver: Typhon
Requirement: Complete The First Vault Hunter.
Recommended Level: 32
Reward: Money + Eridian Fabricator
Mission Info: Typhon thinks you can stop The Destroyer with the help of The Machine, but you’ll need four Vault Keys. Typhon knows where the Nekrotafeyo Vault Key is, and knowing is half the battle. The other half is sending a Vault Hunter to fight.

- Destroy generator

- Reach the temple

Starting Location: Footsteps of Giants
Go to Vault
Typhon says he knows the location of the Nekrotafeyo Vault Key, as he’s hidden it by the Vault itself. Head over to the marked location. Once you get inside the area you’ll have a lot of Maliwan enemies to fight through.
Clear Maliwan Camp
Once you get far enough Typhon will ask you to clear out the area of all the Maliwan troops.
Defeat Elite Mechs
After you defeat the initial group of enemies, General Traunt sends in a couple of mechs that you now have to defeat.
Find Elevated Position
You need to be able to see above the forcefield to hit the generator, jump up on the building in the middle of the area.
Destroy Generator
Then zoom in and shoot the generator to destroy it and lower the forcefield.
Now head down the bridge towards the objective.
Take Alternate Route
General Traunt destroys the bridge so you can’t continue the normal way, head back and go down the other path towards the new objective. Once you reach the on foot area, you’ll have Vault Guardian enemies to deal with.
When you reach the large staircase, jump down the hole to head to the boss fight.
Kill General Traunt
Remember the boss from Athenas? This is the same sort of guy, except he uses shock and poison instead of his brother’s fire and ice. He’ll shoot streams of electricity at you, or throw balls of poison. He’ll occasionally launch a large number of poison balls that hover around the arena and drop smaller balls on the ground. He’ll also toss out a number of shock pillars occasionally too. This fight isn’t overly complicated, just try and keep the small enemies under control and avoid his large area attacks and you should be alright.
Go to Vault
Once Traunt is dead, keep heading towards the Vault.
Reach the Temple
Typhon says to keep heading forward to the Eridian temple, which is where the Vault is. When you reach the Temple grounds you’ll have to make your way through a bunch more Maliwan soldiers.
Clear Maliwan Forces
Once you get inside the temple itself, you’ll have to clear out all the Maliwan soliders before you can progress into the Vault.
Go to Elevator
Head over to the area marked for the elevator.
Activate Temple Energy
Typhon says you need to get two crystals to get the elevator working again to head up to the Vault.
Grab Eridian Crystal
Typhon says you need to get the crystals to actually activate the elevator. Head over to the first marked one and grab it.
Place Eridian Crystal
Turn around and place the crystal in the statue behind you.
Kill Lt. Preston
A heavy will run out of a nearby door, and he has the other crystal. Kill him to get it.
Pick Up Eridian Crystal
Head over to where he died and grab the crystal off the ground.
Place Eridian Crystal
Place the crystal in the other marked statue.
Use Keyboard
Head over to the marked keyboard and interact with it to rotate the statue.
Use Elevator
Head over and interact with the button to use the elevator.
Continue forward to the Vault location. When you head into the next room, you’ll have a number of Watchers to fight through.
Clear Vault Room
In the final room, you’ll have to clear out all Guardians to progress.
Activate Eridian Teleporter
Head over and activate the nearby button so that Typhon can join you.
Follow Typhon
Follow Typhon over to the Vault Key location.
Dig Out Vault Key
Interact with the ground in front of the rocks to get the Vault Key.
Find the Vault Key
Woops, that wasn’t right. Typhon gets the Vault Key out for you.
Take Vault Key
Grab the newly revealed Vault Key from the headstone.
Place Vault Key
Follow Typhon back inside to the Vault and place the key.
Enter Vault
Then you can enter the Vault with Typhon.
Loot Vault
Head up and grab your loot from the front.
Take Eridian Fabricator
Just jokes, Typhon gives you the Eridian Fabricator instead, and you complete the mission.
