Dying Light 2 Duplication Exploit & Infinite Money Guide

This guide explains how the Duplication Exploit Glitch works in Dying Light 2 and how to get Infinite Money quickly. If you stack up expensive endgame gear or have a high-rank player help you out, you can get up to 1 Million Money in 30-60 minutes. All types of inventory items can be duped, including weapons, valuables, armor. You also need 1 Million Money for the “Who Wants To Be a…” trophy and achievement.

The Duplication Exploit requires a Co-Op Partner. Alternatively, if you have a 2nd console/computer you can do it by yourself but it only works online. Also note that at the time of Dying Light 2’s release it does not support crossplay between platforms. PS4 players can only play with other PS4 players (not PS5 players). There is also no crossplay with other platforms. It cannot be done solo offline!

If you played the first Dying Light or Dead Island you may remember the method back then was to throw a weapon, open inventory, and drop it from inventory at the same time to create 2 copies of it. This no longer works because you can’t throw weapons in Dying Light 2 anymore. However, with save game backups and the use of a Co-Op partner you can still dupe items.

Short Summary: Create a Backup Save > Drop items > Have your partner pick them up > Restore your old save to get your items back > repeat. After building up a big stack of valuables you can make another backup save, drop multiple copies at once and keep reloading the old save to create more copies.

Dying Light 2 Duplication & Money Exploit Step by Step:

  1. Get a 2nd Player to Help: First you need a friend to help you. Alternatively, if you have a 2nd console/computer you can do the exploit by yourself. Remember that the game doesn’t support crossplay at the time of its release. Both players must be on the same platform (e.g. both playing PS5 version or both playing PS4 version).
  2. Prepare a good item to dupe: For duping weapons and gear just have the item you want to dupe in your inventory. For weapons it’s best to also add mods via crafting menu to make it even stronger. Adding mods also repairs the weapon if it’s not at maximum durability anymore. For unlimited Money: It’s best to get some yellow rarity goods (Smartphone, Old World Wine etc, randomly found throughout the world) or some yellow rarity Gear (yellow rarity Head Gear, Gloves, Torso etc). The more valuable the item, the faster this will go. For the early game, anything listed under Inventory > Backpack > Valuables is best. For endgame any Rank 9 yellow-rarity gear is the most valuable. If you have neither you can simply dupe your entire inventory and all your valuables at the same time which will still give you a good amount of money.
  3. Create a save game backup:
    1. On PS4/PS5: Console Settings > Saved Data Management > Saved Data > Console Storage > Upload your save to PS+ Cloud [PS5/PS4] or USB flash drive [PS4 only]. If using PS+ cloud (only option on PS5) make sure you have automatic save sync uploads disabled or else it could automatically overwrite your cloud save (PS5 Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data PS5 > Sync Saved Data > Auto-Sync Saved Data = Disabled).
    2. On PC: Find wherever the save game is stored, this can vary but for Steam it should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata. Copy and paste it into another folder where you can find it later.
    3. On Xbox One / Xbox Series – warning, it’s a bit tricky on Xbox and you should try on a test account first if you never did this before, to not lose your progress. This method can mess up your cloud save so proceed at your own risk and with extreme caution: To force a cloud save where you want it to occur: disconnect yourself from the internet > move around in-game whilst disconnected from internet for a few seconds > reconnect yourself back to the internet > now it will force a cloud save > (double-check that it really uploaded to the cloud) > Drop the dupe gear to the other player in co-op WITHOUT EXITING THE GAME (exiting the game may overwrite cloud save!) > as soon as 2nd player picked up your gear, press Home-Button > scroll down to Dying Light 2 > press Options > Manage Game > Saved Data > click Gamertag > Delete Saved Data > Delete from Console > if it still shows the save, delete it again until it’s gone > press Home-Button and restart the game > it will now sync/download your backup save from cloud to get your gear back! (thanks to Spray_UK for confirming the Xbox method)
  4. Give item to Co-Op Partner: Start a co-op session. Drop items from inventory for your co-op partner. Your friend must pick it up.
  5. Restore your old Save: Exit game, copy back your save to get your weapon back. If you are quick enough you can potentially just quit the game before it overwrites your current save, reboot and see if you still have your weapons. If yes you don’t need to restore save. If no, you must restore your old save to get them back.
    1. On PS4/PS5: Console Settings > Saved Data Management > Saved Data > Cloud Storage / USB Drive > Copy to Console > Overwrite console saves.
    2. On PC: Overwrite the Dying Light 2 save with your backup.
    3. On Xbox: Follow the steps outlined in Step 3 for Xbox, it’s recommended to test on a second account first if you’ve never done this before.
  6. Rejoin Friend, repeat Steps 2-5: Rejoin your friend in co-op, drop same item again, repeat Steps 2-5 until your friend has built up a full inventory + stash of the same high value item. After a few tries when your friend has 3-4 copies of the same item, have the friend give you the stack of items and you make a new backup (Step 3). Then you have a bigger stack of items so you can duplicate multiple ones each run instead of just one. The goal in this step is to have an entire inventory of the same item (can even put them in player stash for even more). The more copies you can drop at the same time the faster it will multiply.
  7. Once inventory is full, make another backup: Once a player has a full inventory of the same high-value item, that player should back up their save again (Step 3). On this save you now have lots of copies of the same item. This allows you to drop off an entire inventory of highly valuable gear on each cycle so it will go super fast to get money.
  8. Sell items for money or put them in the stash for later use: Drop off the entire inventory of item copies, friend sells all items at merchant for money (or in case of weapons put them in player stash). After you dropped off all items, copy back your save (Step 5). Keep repeating Step 8 & Step 5, dropping off lots of item copies for your friend each time. After one player has reached 1 Million money you can switch sides and have the other person drop the items.

If you were to go for 1 Million money legit, it would take 200 hours+. You’d have to loot and sell absolutely everything you come across, clear everything on the map. For reference, after 100h of gameplay you may only have around 400,000 money and by this point you’ll run out of points of interest. Then the only viable option would be to join someone’s co-op game, or kill lots of enemies and loot them, but they don’t always drop valuable loot. The co-op duplication exploit is your best bet. With some high-value Rank 9 items (worth up to 8,000 per piece) you can get to 1 Million in about 30-60 minutes. It’s doable even faster if your friend already has an entire stash full of high-value items to dupe.

  1. This is going to absolutely suck on Xbox. Cloud saves are an issue at the best of times, save manipulation will be super risky on Xbox and for a game like this especially where it’s quite long.

    • Zero. The day one patch is already out, the game already released.
      Unless they patch out the function to drop items in Co-Op (or for other players to pick them up) there is no way to prevent this. Worst case, they will make it so items you pick up from other players can’t be sold or give no money when sold, but then you can still dupe weapons at least.
      The same dupe method works in virtually any game that stores the save offline and lets you drop stuff to other players.

  5. Not too sure if something is going wrong, but this is on Xbox Series X. I got 2 accounts to the Bazarr and also make sure the alt account has the save data that spawns me back if I quit by verifying when I end the app and load in again.

    Whenever I drop items and delete sava data it resets me back to the part I’m with Hakon before we attempt to open the GRE chest and it was already looted.

    Can’t tell if I’m doing something wrong

  19. I hope somneone can help me out within a few weeks still (mostly everyone would already have it done by then) I cant play 6 plus hours a day and want to do it after story finished etc, anyone willing to help in a few weeks?

  25. There is a much simpler and quicker way to duplicate items: all players just have to pick up the item at the exact time! The timing is a little fiddly, though. Once you got it, it’ll become more easy on each subsequent duplication.

    You basically can skip the whole backup section:
    1. Drop item
    2. Pick item up with all players
    3. Let other players drop duplicated items
    4. Pick items up to gain a higher stack
    5. Repeat steps 1 to 4

  31. Apparently there is a solo item dupe glitch for the game.
    from what i can make out is you need an item to be at the max amount EG: arrows x60 for at least 1 stacks worth and then another stack with just under the max 60 like 59 and then you put the 59 into your storage stash bag/box beside one of your beds first followed then by the maxed out stack.
    Theory is the game gets confused and gives you some extra free arrows in another stack.
    Videos on youtube but some folk seem to over complicate the process with their droning voice overs talking gibberish at times LOL.

    Anyway seems that it can be done with any item as long as you can get a stack of the max and another with just some 🙂
    Then you either keep them and use them or sell them on rinse and repeat.

    • haha yeah just did it with max level grenades found in sunken airdrops, first you need around 4 trips to the airdrops to get 99 + x stacks of grenades, then start duping until you get 2 stacks, 99 98.
      Move the 98 first, move another 99, then move the 99 back, if you mess up, dont try to move anything smaller than 99, it will get stuck in a bugged state and wont move from the side you just moved. Always move 99 stacks around to reset status, then move a 98 stack to the other side and use 99 stacks to reset again, and resume the dupe.
      Quit the game often to save status, the game crashes easily in this state, learnt my lesson the hard way. Sleeping doesn’t work. I do around 100k per 5 minutes. The trophy is cumulative so I actually get the trophy when I have 930k, so feel free to spend freely during normal gameplay unlike me 🙁

  38. To get the “one million” trophy, at least in PC/Steam, you can just sell and buyback your gear. It will count towards the one million everytime you resell the same item. You will not lose money using buyback, it is the same price you sold it for…

    • Can confirm that this works on Ps4, so probably works on Ps5 also. Had about 200,000 from the start and sold and bought back my way up to a total of a million.

    • can confirm this still works. With the new DLC I just sold all of the Mutation samples I had (25k worth) and then bought them all back until the trophy pops. It takes ~10s for you to buy them all back for some reason so just be patient.
