Empty Baskets is a side tale in Ghost of Tsushima. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Empty Baskets Side Quest.
Empty Baskets is unlocked when you’ve completed the introduction and reach the open world.
Side Tale: Empty Baskets
Act: 1 – Rescue Lord Shimura
Region: Izuhara
Quest Giver: Peasant rumor
Requirement: By finding it in the open world
Rewards: Minor Legend Increase, 10 linen
Mission Info: Bandits stole food from a lone woman in Tsutsu. When I promised to recover her food, she asked me to not harm the thieves. I made no promises.
Objectives:
- Travel northeast toward the woods
- Search for the bandits
- Enter the woods
- Search for the stolen food
- Return the rice to the woman
Starting Location: Empty Baskets
Travel northeast toward the woods
After speaking to the peasant woman, head to the northeast towards the waypoint.
Search for the bandits
When you even get near the center of the search zone, you’ll be given a new waypoint in the woods to follow.
Enter the woods
Head towards the waypoint, and eventually you will hear bandits talking, and inadvertently find out that the woman had lied to you about the food. Still, they’re bandits, so…
Search for the stolen food
Once all the bandits have been killed, look in the camp for a basket of rice.
Return the rice to the woman
Go back to the woman and confront her about the lie. No one looks good in this tale.
This finishes the Empty Baskets quest in Ghost of Tsushima.

When you go back later to the woman’s hut, bandits are there and you can find her dead body inside…

Actually you can avoid killing the bandits altogether. I sneaked in and stole the rice without killing anyone. When I came back the the woman, the dialogue reflected that.
“Besides, I told you not to hurt them.”
“Luckily I didn’t have to.”
