A Helping Hand is a side tale in Ghost of Tsushima – Iki Island DLC Expansion. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of A Helping Hand Side Quest.
Side Tale: A Helping Hand
Region: Iki Island
Quest Giver: Peasant
Requirement: Locate the peasant and give him materials 3 times in the open world (woods, field, beach). After this the tale gets added to your journal and you must visit him at his house to finish the tale.
Rewards: Charm of Iron Grip
Mission Info: A man is building a new home by himself after Mongols destroyed his house. I gave him what I could. He told me he’s building his home in a grassy clearing west of Fort Sakai. I should look for him there.
Objectives:
- Locate Peasant in Woods
- Locate Peasant in Field
- Locate Peasant at Beach
- Locate Peasant at House
Starting Location: A Helping Hand (Locate Peasant in Woods)
A Helping Hand is a secret tale that doesn’t have a map marker. Furthermore, it doesn’t show up in your journal until you’ve finished the tale and there are no waypoints throughout.
The tale consists of finding a man 3 times and giving him materials to help him build his house that was destroyed by Mongols. He will be in the Woods, Field, Beach. You can locate him by the white smoke in the sky that signals his location. He won’t always be there. If he’s not there, check back later.
His first spawn is usually in the Woods shown in the map below (white character arrow marks the spot). Talk to him and give him 3x Yew Wood. You should see the white smoke in the sky from far away when he’s there.
Alternatively, he can also spawn at this location instead, in the south-east of Iki Island, area called “Weeping Mother’s Meadow”:
Locate Peasant in Field
Locate the man a 2nd time in the Field and give him 6x Predator Hides. Normally, he should spawn here immediately after finding him at his previous location, but if he’s not there check back later.
Locate Peasant at Beach
Locate the man a 3rd time at the Beach and give him 10x Iron. Normally, he should spawn here immediately after finding him at his previous location, but if he’s not there check back later.
Locate Peasant at House
After locating him 3 times and giving him all the materials, the quest will be formally added to your journal. You must now visit him at his house west of Fort Sakai. Talk to him there and he’ll show the house he built with your materials. Then this secret tale ends.
This finishes A Helping Hand quest in Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island.

Cal says
I’m pretty sure I’ve never found him in his first spawning spot (because my map was fogged when I’ve already gave him wood). I wonder if its possible to find him somewhere else
PowerPyx says
If you already gave him materials in the woods he should show up at the 2nd location next. Doesn’t matter when you did it or if the map was still fogged. It should advance his quest either way. Did you get the map marker for his house after giving him materials? (icon west of Fort Sakai)
That’s how you know it counted and triggered the quest.
Cal says
Yeah, I’ve got house marker after the first time I’ve met him.
Sergio says
Maybe locations are not fixed, I found him the third time on Zasho Bay, where you get the Mythic tale for the horse armor. Any chance the others may have other spawn points?
Sarah says
This does show up under “Activities” in the Collections area of the menu. It will show how many of the 3 tasks you have completed for “A Helping Hand”.
Jordan says
I have completed this side quest, but the trophy did not pop?
Flo says
Same. It says 3/3 but the trophy won’t pop up
Rangga says
I did found all of these 3 peasants, but for the last one in shipwreckes area, I gave him 2x of 10 irons.
Now i cant complete the tales, the home building is still incomplete. Anybody encounter the same issue?
Jason B says
I’ve met in the fields, but never at the beach and the house location by Tatsu’s Ladder, but the game never lets me find him, like it’s terribly glitched after helping him twice. Anyone else having this problem?
