The Sensei and the Student (Ishikawa Tale 2 of 9) is a side tale in Ghost of Tsushima. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Sensei and the Student Side Quest.
The Sensei and the Student is unlocked when you’ve completed The Tale of Sensei Ishikawa (Ishikawa Tale 1 of 9).
Side Tale: The Sensei and the Student
Act: 1 – Rescue Lord Shimura
Region: Izuhara
Quest Giver: Ishikawa
Requirement: Complete The Tale of Sensei Ishikawa (Ishikawa Tale 1 of 9)
Rewards: Minor Legend Increase, Minor Ranged Charm, 2 silk
Mission Info: (Ishikawa Tale 2 of 9). Sensei Ishikawa and I learned that his former student, Tomoe, has sided with the Mongols. He asked me to meet him at his dojo so we can continue the hunt to track her down.
Objectives:
- Meet Ishikawa at his dojo in Hiyoshi
- Follow Ishikawa
- Climb to the top of the cliff
- Speak with Sensei Ishikawa
- Inspect the target
- Defeat the Mongols
- Speak with Sensei Ishikawa
- Pick up the Mongols’ trail
- Follow the Mongols’ trail
- Save the captive villagers
- Speak with Sensei Ishikawa
Starting Location: The Sensei and the Student
Meet Ishikawa at his dojo in Hiyoshi
Go to Ishikawa’s dojo in Ishikawa, and speak with him.
Follow Ishikawa
Ishikawa mentions that a local saw Mongols training at an archery range, possibly with Tomoe. Follow him until you reach a cliff.
Speak with Sensei Ishikawa
Looks like you have to climb.
Climb to the top of the cliff
Do as the man says.
Speak with Sensei Ishikawa
Well, he did say that you have to climb.
Inspect the target
Run down to the camp and investigate the archery targets. And by targets we mean a severed head in a bag.
Defeat the Mongols
Huh. Its almost like Ishikawa used you as bait to lure out the Mongols. Crafty old man.
Speak with Sensei Ishikawa
Go talk to Sensei Ishikawa, who justifies his non-effort as a test. Which you passed. Good for you!
Pick up the Mongols’ trail
Examine the footprints near Ishikawa to begin trailing the Mongols.
Follow the Mongols’ trail
Another examine prompt will appear a short distance away. Press 
when prompted and follow the tracks. Keep following them until you enter a small village and a cinematic plays.
Save the captive villagers
Kill the Mongols through stealth, or an overwhelming shower of arrows. Then run up and free the villagers.
Speak with Sensei Ishikawa
Talk with Ishikawa, as he continues to grapple with the truth of Tomoe’s cruelty.
This finishes The Sensei and the Student quest in Ghost of Tsushima.

This isn’t unlocked for when I’ve completed the first of Sensei Ishikawa (Ishikawa Tale 1 of 9). I reverted back to an earlier save and this didn’t work either 🙁 I even when on to recruit lady and he 2nd tale never appeared either 🙁 any advice please? reverting back to old save files isn’t working :(.

Try advancing the story a bit further, it may need more story progress.

Have you finished the Warrior’s Code tale? I had the same problem until I met up with Yuna and help her first. Then Sensei Ishikawa appeared on my map as soon as I finished that mission. Hope this helps!
