Ghost of Tsushima The Undying Flame Walkthrough

The Undying Flame is a Mythic Tale in Ghost of Tsushima. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the The Undying Flame Mythic Side Quest.

Quest Giver: Peasant in Kawachi Whaling Village
Requirement: having liberated Kawachi Whaling Village
Rewards: Moderate Legend Increase, Way of the Flame, Sword Kit
Mission Info: I found the musician waiting at the base of Mount Jogaku. He told a tale of an undying fire at the mountaintop and a fighting technique called the Way of the Flame. If it exists, I could harness the power of fire in my fight against the Mongols.

Objectives:

• Find the Musician in Jogaku
• Ascend Mt. Jogaku
• Investigate the Dojo
• Pick up the Rock
• Descend Mt. Jogaku
• Speak with the Musician

Starting Location: Base of Mount Jogaku

 

 

Find the Musician in Jogaku

Reach the Musician’s location to speak with him. He will tell you the tale of the Way of the Flame.

Ascend Mt. Jogaku

The goal is to reach the top of Mountain Jogaku. However, as you ascend you will be freezing. The only way around this is to find the campfires on the path up the mountain, which act as a sort of checkpoint to reset the freezing status. We’ll make our way from one campfire to the next.

From where the musician quest giver is sitting, take the path to the immediate left of him (to the west). At the end of the path you can climb up some ledges, see the image below (circled red). The map below marks the exact spot where you should climb up.

Then the first fire will be straight ahead, before the big wooden bridge.

Campfire Location #1:

From this campfire climb up to the right and cross the big wooden bridge.

 

Beware of the two wolves on the path, it’s best to shoot them with arrows from afar (one headshot will kill them). After crossing the bridge, go straight ahead to climb up a ledge and then turn right to find the 2nd campfire.

Campfire Location #2:

 

From this campfire go straight ahead, kill the single wolf, and use your grappling hook to swing to the tree branch.

After you climbed up the rope / tree branch, look straight ahead for some ledges you can climb. At the top you find the 3rd campfire straight ahead.

Campfire Location #3:

 

To the left of this campfire (facing north), there’s a path with 4 wolves on it. At the end of the path with the wolves, climb up the ledges. Now the 4th campfire is straight ahead of you.

Campfire Location #4:

 

Feel free to talk to the man by the campfire, then head to the left of him. There you can walk across a fallen trunk and use your grappling hook to swing across to a tree stump.

After pulling yourself up, there’s a campfire straight ahead, but you need to ignite it yourself using . Jin will also comment “Another campfire”.

 

Continue up the mountain until you can ignite a new fire with .

Now keep going until you reach the dojo at the mountaintop. Beware of the bear on the path (but you can simply run past it, or in case you kill it backtrack to the last fire to refresh).

Investigate the Dojo

Approach the entrance to the dojo to speak to Bettomaru.

Pick up the Rock

Next, enter the dueling arena and pick up the rock. This will start a duel against Bettomaru. During the duel, you will learn The Way of the Flame.

Descend Mt. Jogaku

Now descend Mt. Jogaku by using the prompt found on the steps you came up from.

Speak with the Musician

Now go speak with the Musician to end the tale.

This finishes the The Undying Flame quest in Ghost of Tsushima.
