Troubled Waters is a side tale in Ghost of Tsushima – Iki Island DLC Expansion. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Troubled Waters Side Quest.
Side Tale: Troubled Waters

Requirement: Locate this tale in the open world
Rewards: Minor Legend Increase, Minor Utility Charm, +10 Linen
Mission Info: I spotted signs of a battle along the coast. A burning ship and debris. I should find out what happened.
Objectives:
- Investigate burning wreckage
- Speak with the survivor
- Escape the hwacha fire on the beach
- Find the woman named Sugi / investigate the smoldering house
- Speak with Sugi
- Follow Sugi to confront the visitors
- Defend the village from Yamaneko’s Crew
- Follow Sugi to discuss Yamaneko’s Crew
Starting Location: Troubled Waters
Investigate burning wreckage
After arriving at the quest location, there won’t be a quest giver like with other quests. Instead, you must investigate the rubble of the shipwreck.
On the left are some burned wooden beams and a burned body. On the right is a destroyed rudder. After examining all 3 clues you get the objective to speak with the sole survivor.
Speak with the survivor
The survivor sits to the right of the big shipwreck at the beach. Talk to him.
Escape the hwacha fire on the beach
You ran right into an ambush. A Mongol ship from the sea will fire its hwachas at you (burning arrows). You must leave the beach and avoid the hwacha fire, indicated by the white circular outline on the ground. Just run far away.
Find the woman named Sugi / investigate the smoldering house
After escaping, you need to find Sugi, someone the sole survivor told you about. The below map screenshot shows Sugi’s exact location. She’s inside a smoldering house. Examine the items in the house and she’ll appear.
Speak with Sugi
Talk to Sugi in the smoldering house.
Follow Sugi to confront the visitors
In the distance you’ll hear Raiders have come to the village and are mistreating the villagers. Sugi will head outside, follow her to where the enemies are.
Defend the village from Yamaneko’s Crew
Defeat all of the attackers in the village. It’s best to kill the Shaman first so that the other enemies are no longer buffed by him.
Follow Sugi to discuss Yamaneko’s Crew
After all enemies are dead, follow Sugi to the cliffs. She will discuss the next steps with you and this triggers the follow-up quest “Bloodletting”.
This finishes the Troubled Waters quest in Ghost of Tsushima Iki Island.
