Meltdown is the 64th main story mission in GTA V (Grand Theft Auto 5). This walkthrough shows how to get all Gold Medals in Meltdown for 100% completion.
Gold Medal Requirements:
- Mission Time: Complete within 06:30
- Pedal to the Metal: Reach top speed in any vehicle
- Tier One Operator: Kill 12 enemies with a headshot
- Headshot Rescue: Rescue Amanda and Tracey with a headshot

Change Into Your Tuxedo in Ponsonbys to Attend the Meltdown Premiere
You’re working against the clock, so skip the cutscenes!
- Mission Time: Complete within 06:30
Enter the Ponsonbys on Portola Drive, and head over to the suits section.
Select the first option on the list to change into your Tuxedo, then exit the menu to trigger a cinematic, which you should skip.
Get in the Limousine
Jimmy has hired a car for your premiere, and he makes the ride a uniquely Jimmy experience. Fortunately you can skip the ride by pressing 
/ 
.
Go to the Red Carpet
Get out of the limo and start walking towards the theater. When you’re approaching Lazlow, you’ll trigger a cinematic. Skip it!
Save Your Family
That vindictive dick Devin Weston has hired Merryweather to kill Michael’s family, and you have only two minutes to save them! Steal his sports car, and race to Michael’s house for the next Gold Medal requirement:
- Pedal to the Metal: Reach top speed in any vehicle
The length of Vinewood Boulevard and Eclipse Boulevard that you have before the turn onto Portola Drive will give you more than enough ground to reach top speed in the Pegassi Vacca that you’re driving, as long as you avoid traffic. Careful as you pass San Vitus Boulevard as the road will start to go downhill and you will catch some air, potentially causing issues if there’s traffic you’re forced to avoid on the other side.
Once at the house, break our your trusty carbine and head through the door, mindful of the remaining two Gold Medal requirements:
- Tier One Operator: Kill 12 enemies with a headshot
- Headshot Rescue: Rescue Amanda and Tracey with a headshot
Immediately you’ll see Amanda struggling with a Merryweather soldier on the stairs. Use Michael’s special ability and take out the soldier with a headshot.
Turn off the special ability and keep running up the stairs and into Tracey’s room straight ahead of you. Activate the special ability again for another headshot to save Tracey. Skip the cinematic.
Clear the House of Merryweather
Coming out of the cinematic, Michael will be in cover at the top of the stairs. Activate his special ability and headshot the soldier on the stairs. Head down the stairs but wait on the landing, as Merryweather soldiers toss a grenade through the front door.
As the smoke clears, two soldiers will run in through the door, and a third will come in through the garage and enter the living room to your left at the bottom of the stairs. Activate your special ability again for headshots on all three, making six headshots so far.
Two more soldiers will enter through the back door and take cover in the kitchen. Start moving towards the kitchen and get headshots on both of them to bring your total to eight.
Another Merryweather goon will pop up in the dining room, and start firing on you as you reach the kitchen entrance. Cap him and move into the kitchen to kill another soldier as he enters through the back door.
Go out into the backyard, shooting two more who are coming up the stairs towards the patio.
If you’ve gotten headshots on all the soldiers so far, you should have the 12 you need for the Gold Medal requirement. Always worth getting a few extra for safety though. Head down the stairs and onto the driveway and you’ll see two soldiers in the carport.
More Merryweather will pull up your driveway in a couple of Mesas. If you have 12 headshots already, you can hit them with a grenade launcher to kill all four of them before they get out, or just kill them normally.
Move up through the carport and look to your right (north), where you can destroy another Mesa and the soldiers it’s carrying.
Go To Your Family
Head back inside and up the stairs. Pay attention to any Merryweather that are still moving in the ground, and finish them off as you go. Head up the stairs towards Tracey’s room, then skip the cinematic to end the mission.
This finishes Meltdown in GTA V.
