The Jewel Store Job (Smart Approach) is the 13th main story mission in GTA V (Grand Theft Auto 5). This walkthrough shows how to get all Gold Medals in The Jewel Store Job (Smart Approach) for 100% completion. Get in the Car
You’ll start off controlling Michael. Go down the stairs and get in your car, waiting for Franklin to join you before you go.
Go to the Jewelry Store
Drive to the objective marker while Michael and Franklin talk about the job and his life. Park on the objective marker outside the store under construction.
Go to the Roof
Switching control to Franklin, you’ll have to retrace Michael’s steps from “Casing the Jewel Store” and go up the stairs, to the ladders, and then to the roof.
Run all the way back to the place where Michael took the photograph of the vent on top of the HVAC unit. Once in position, switch to the BZ Gas Grenade and toss one into the vent.
Once you hit your target, the gas will start to flow into the vents and control will switch back to Michael.
Steal the Jewelry
During this objective, every second counts while fulfilling two of the Gold Medal requirements:
- Quick Grab: Steal the jewelry within 50 seconds
- Clean Sweep: Steal the jewelry from all 20 glass cabinets
Take the first three seconds to spray the nearest cases with gunfire to break their glass. The animation that plays when you loot a case with broken glass is roughly half as long as the one that plays when you have to break the glass individually with the butt of your gun. When going for both Quick Grab and Clean Sweep, those extra seconds saved can make a difference. You’ll want to loot all the cases nearest the door first, but pay attention to what the other crew are doing. If you see him leaving cases behind, it will be up to you to pick up the slack.
Another thing to be aware of: when the game plays the smashing and/or grabbing animation, the camera does not always revert to its previous orientation leading you to potentially move in unexpected directions when you regain control. Keep an eye on the minimap to see where the next jewel case that you’re heading towards actually is relative to your new perspective. If you’re not paying attention, that shift can cost you valuable seconds on a Gold Medal requirement that has no margin for error.
NOTE: The Quick Grab and Clean Sweep requirements are very difficult to get simultaneously. Since Gold Medal requirements are cumulative across replays, it is more efficient to try to get these requirements one at a time instead.
Leave the Store
Outside you’ll trigger a short cinematic where Michael has to deal with a mall cop before Franklin can drive off with the loot.
Follow the Crew
You will automatically switch to controlling Franklin as you make your getaway by motorcycle, using Franklin’s special ability where necessary to make tight turns or avoid obstacles.
Once you are through the tunnels and emerge in the floodway, control will change back to Michael who is driving the getaway truck.
Take Out the Cops Before Getting to the Rendezvous Point
Looks like the cops were expecting you in the river, and it’s up to Michael to get them off the crew’s tail. Act quickly though, since it is a Gold Medal requirement:
- Protégé Protected: Protect Franklin during the LS River chase
The Pop’s Pills truck he’s driving isn’t a fast vehicle but it sure is a heavy one. Use ramming, sideswipes, PIT maneuvers, or straight up gunfire to disable the police cruisers chasing you and protect the crew. Start by taking out the two vehicles that are directly in front of you when you assume control. After that, cross the river and smash into the two that are directly behind the crew’s bikes.
When those two are taken care of, a single cruiser will come down the side of the floodway towards the bikes. Make sure that when the crew crosses back to the left side, you get between them and him.
Follow them back to the left side when the cruiser is dealt with, watching for a police cruiser to come out of one of the side tunnels. Smash it quickly!
Because another cruiser will pop out at the very next tunnel, using the same strategy. Teach them a thing or two about momentum.
At this point the crew will cross back to the right side of the river, and you will be in the clear. Stop on the objective marker to load up the bikes into the back of the truck.
Go to the Lockup
Drive up the ramp and a short drive later you’ll be at the lockup. Park inside and watch the cinematic to end the mission.
