Chop is the 5th main story mission in GTA V (Grand Theft Auto 5). This walkthrough shows how to get all Gold Medals in Chop for 100% completion.
Gold Medal Requirements:
- Not a Scratch: Complete with minimal damage to Lamar’s van
- Homedog: Enter Chop’s perspective for 10 seconds
- Advanced Reflexes: Use Franklin’s special ability for 7 seconds

Follow Lamar to the Van
Follow Lamar and Chop down the block to find Lamar’s van parked in the alley nearby. Get in the driver’s seat while Lamar loads Chop in the back, then gets in the passenger side.
Go to Vinewood Boulevard
Since there is no time limit on this mission, drive safely avoiding traffic and obstacles to meet the mission requirement:
- Not a Scratch: Complete with minimal damage to Lamar’s van
Don’t forget to Franklin’s special ability if you think you might not make a corner or when trying to avoid a collision. Reach the objective marker, and then skip the cutscene.
Chase D
Run back to the van and get in, rushing after D as he careens through the streets on a much faster motorcycle. Follow him as closely as you can using Franklin’s special ability where necessary, especially when Lamar mentions your concentration on Power St. between Spanish Ave. and Hawick Ave. Right after this a car will swerve suddenly into the turning lane, which you must avoid. Right after this you will also have to avoid cross traffic on Hawick so keep the ability going until you’re clear. For safety, keep the ability going for 7 seconds to get the Gold Medal requirement out of the way.
- Advanced Reflexes: Use Franklin’s special ability for 7 seconds
Using his special ability will be key when trying to avoid damage during the chase, and to maintain speed while going around corners. Use it as D turns left onto Integrity Way, then right onto Elgin Ave.
He will then turn left onto San Andreas Ave, then just before the bridge he’ll juke left and head down Sinner’s Passage. Use your special ability through this entire sequence.
Don’t relax yet, as right away he’ll make a hard left into Simmet Alley. Keep using Franklin’s special ability to dodge displays and telephone poles. At the end of the alley, D will crash against a bus and flee on foot.
You’ll get Chop out of the back of the van, and give chase.
Follow Chop through the Bus depot as he chases D over a chain link fence on the right side of the lot. Climb over the fence and turn left to chase D across a roof, then down into the lot below.
Follow Chop, sliding across the car’s hood to keep your momentum, then crash through the wooden barricade on the other side.
Turn right, and you’ll see D run across the tracks jumping over one flat car, and through an open boxcar on the other side.
Follow him through the car, and south along the tracks until he manages to break line of sight with you between two trains.

Now it’s up to Chop to find D by scent, and you can now complete another Gold Medal requirement:
- Homedog: Enter Chop’s perspective for 10 seconds
Tap 
/ 
to switch to Chop, and stay in his perspective for at least 10 seconds. The time spent is cumulative, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t get it all at once and get it out of the way. Chop leads Franklin to some very suspicious boxcars.
Open Boxcars to See if D is Hiding Inside
Switch back to Franklin, approach the boxcar doors, and press 
to open them. Unfortunately the first two boxcars are empty. Chop will continue to track D, but then is suddenly distracted by the smell of another dog which he proceeds to mount. He will ignore your calls until you go up and physically pull him off the other dog. Then he’ll go back to tracking D, revealing another three box cars to check. D will be inside one of them, and will start running again. Not fast enough to beat Chop however, and he knocks D to the ground.
Take D to Lamar’s House
Now you’ll drive, following the route marked in yellow on your minimap, while Lamar makes his ransom call to the Ballas using his personal cellphone. Whoops.
Stop the Van to Let D Out
Lamar’s plan ruined by his own foolishness, there’s nothing to do but to let D go and wait for the inevitable consequences.
Drop Lamar Off at the Rec Center
Follow the new objective marker to the Rec Center and drop off Lamar to end the mission.
