Starting Location: Lamar Down
- Location: Vinewood Hills / Whispymound Drive / Franklin’s New House
- Quest Giver: Tanisha
- Requirement: Complete “The Wrap Up” and “Reuniting the Family“
- Can Be Started By: Franklin
NOTE: It is best to complete this mission on the first playthrough so that you can use a helicopter to save time to and from Paleto Bay. It is important that you land your helicopter on the slope across from Franklin’s house, otherwise the helicopter will despawn during the opening cinematic. This will occur if you land the helicopter on your driveway, on the roof of your garage, in the street, or even if the tail of the helicopter sticks out over the street.
Go to the Sawmill
You’re working against the clock, so skip the cutscenes!
- Mission Time: Complete within 13:30
Tanisha comes by asking for help for Lamar, who has been abducted by the Ballas! Surprising no-one, Stretch sold him out and now Lamar is being held at the Ballas at their marijuana op in the sawmill near Paleto Bay. The 13:30 time limit is very tight, so bring a helicopter to make your trip eat up less of your precious time. As you head to the Sawmill, Franklin will call Lester for help. Lester will get Michael and Trevor out to the Sawmill, and they will meet you at a spot a few hundred meters from the site.
NOTE: When landing the helicopter, make sure that you land well away from Michael and Trevor and not on the road. Again, the game will despawn your helicopter during the cinematic with Michael and Trevor if you land on the road, or if the tail of the helicopter sticks out over the road. The circled area below shows the optimal spot to land to prevent it from despawning.
Get Into an Assault Position
Once you reach Michael and Trevor, skip the cinematic. Control will switch to Trevor and you will have to move to one of the three locations marked with a yellow dot on your minimap. To shave some precious seconds off your time, you can move both Trevor and Franklin to the nearest location near the bridge west of the sawmill. Or instead you can ignore the objective marker entirely and run straight into the firefight to continue.
Find Lamar
As the shooting starts, remember the remaining Gold Medal requirements:
- Headshots: Kill 18 enemies with a headshot
- Three Way: Kill an enemy with all 3 characters
- Accuracy: Finish with a shooting accuracy of at least 70%
Get a headshot with Franklin right at the start to kick things off, then headshot the remaining four Ballas in the open to the east.
As you advance up the hill to the southwest, watch for goons on the roof and conveyor belt above you. Some will be carrying RPGs, which can result in an instant kill.
Once you’re approaching the top of the hill, five more enemies will spawn and Franklin will call out the snipers on the roof. Switch to Michael when prompted. Use Michael’s special ability to zoom in and line up headshots on the snipers and any other targets of opportunity in the stacks of lumber at the top of the hill
When all the enemies in the open are down, switch back to Franklin to make it as far as you can, saving Trevor for the hardest part of the fight up ahead. As you advance, five more enemies will spawn. Switch over to a shotgun for close range work and take out anyone you catch in the open with a headshot.
When things get too hairy, or Franklin’s life gets low, switch over to Trevor for the final push. Since time is of the essence on this mission, you’ll be making good use of Trevor’s special ability for the next section to charge through enemies on your way to Lamar.
Protected by Trevor’s rage, push through everyone in the stacks of lumber, then turn left (northwest) at the end to find Lamar on a wooden balcony. Headshot the Balla standing over him, disable Trevor’s special ability, then run up to Lamar to get him moving.
Turn around immediately, and run back towards the stacks where more Ballas have spawned near Franklin. Once you have a clear shot, activate Trevor’s special ability again and clear the path for Franklin and Lamar to follow.
Make sure to watch for the guys on the wall above you.
At this point, cars full of Ballas will start rolling up. If they’ve already gotten out and are running for cover, kill them normally.
Once you reach the top of the hill and start to head back towards the bridge, you can switch to your grenade launcher and kill the cars before the Ballas can get into the fight. If you’re fast enough you can kill them all, but otherwise some of the Ballas will charge Michael’s position. He will call this out on the radio, and you’ll be able to switch to them to kill them with an assault rifle as they run up the path beneath him.
Once all the enemies have been killed, it will be time for your escape. You’ll automatically switch back to Franklin who says that he’ll take Lamar home.
NOTE: Do not get into any of the other cars in the area if you brought a helicopter. This may cause your helicopter to despawn.
Lead Lamar across the bridge and back to your helicopter if you brought one, otherwise steal one of the Ballas’ cars and drive back to Lamar’s house. Once you reach the objective marker, skip the cinematic to end the mission.
This finishes Lamar Down in GTA V.
