Surveying the Score is the 52nd main story mission in GTA V (Grand Theft Auto 5). This walkthrough shows how to get all Gold Medals in Surveying the Score for 100% completion.
Gold Medal Requirements:
- Perfect Distance: Follow the vans without being warned on distance
- Cavity Search: Find the construction hole within 00:20
- Under the Bridge: Fly under the bridge while following the security vans
- Tunnel Flight: Fly through the tunnel while following the security vans
- Mission Time: Complete within 11:00

Drive to the Bank / Drive to the Airfield
You’re working against the clock, so skip the cutscenes!
- Mission Time: Complete within 11:00
Everyone is on deck to scout out a heist at the Union Depository, the so called “big one”. You can either control Michael and scout out the bank’s entrance and exits with Franklin, or control Trevor and drive out to the airfield with Lester and get ready to scout the area from the air. Michael will be done his tasks before Trevor reaches the airfield so you might as well start with him. Head to the objective marker and park there to examine the front door.
Scope out the Back Entrance
Then you’ll drive around to the back door to find it also lightly guarded. Control will then automatically switch to Trevor.
Drive to the Airfield
Continue out to the objective marker and get in the helicopter with Lester.
Fly to Murrieta Heights
Take off and fly to the objective marker to locate the convoy of armored cars.
Follow the Convoy
While following the convoy, avoid approaching them too closely due to the Gold Medal requirement:
- Perfect Distance: Follow the vans without being warned on distance
While it is easy to get too close, it is very difficult to be considered too far away. Don’t be afraid to give them a generous lead in the helicopter.
When the vans approach the Olympic Freeway, start to descend but being careful not to approach them too closely. Then fly under the bridge for the first incredibly reckless Gold Medal requirement on this mission:
- Under the Bridge: Fly under the bridge while following the security vans
Once through to the other side, don’t approach the corner where the convoy goes. First gain some altitude and back off a bit. The convoy will have stopped for traffic right around the corner, and it’s easy to accidentally get to close here.
Continue to follow the convoy until Trevor says he’s lost sight of them in the tunnel, then start to descend to the tunnel entrance for the next incredibly reckless Gold Medal requirement on this mission:
- Tunnel Flight: Fly through the tunnel while following the security vans
Land near the entrance to nullify your horizontal momentum. then gently push forward on the stick gently while lightly pressing

repeatedly to take off and skim just above the road’s surface. You will almost certainly take some damage during this section, but if you stay close to the center of the tunnel and avoid smashing into the ceiling with your rotors, you should be able to make it through intact enough to finish the mission, even if your engine is smoking. This will still be a challenge, but landing first and lining up on the tunnel helps you keep the helicopter on a manageable trajectory through the tunnel and limiting the amount of damage you’ll have to deal with.
After you’ve made it through, gain a little altitude and turn around to locate where the construction site is to prepare for the next Gold Medal objective:
- Cavity Search: Find the construction hole within 00:20
You can’t get this requirement until a short cinematic plays as the convoy enters the back entrance. Skip the cinematic.
Hover Near the Construction Entrance
When you regain control, you’ll be hovering in front of the Arcadius Business Center. Quickly, turn east and fly to the back of the white and red building next to you.
Behind it, next to Power Street will be the site you’re looking for. This is actually the parking lot you came through in “Franklin and Lamar” at the beginning of the game. Descend quickly and hover low over the hole for Cavity Search to be fulfilled.
After Lester examines the sites for about 30 seconds,
Go to the Airfield / Take Franklin Back to His House
Depending on whether you play the last section as either Trevor or Michael, you will either head back to the airfield or drop Franklin off at his house, either of which will end the mission.
