An American Welcome is a Strangers and Freaks Mission (Side Quest) in GTA V (Grand Theft Auto 5). This walkthrough shows how to get all Gold Medals in An American Welcome for 100% completion.
Gold Medal Requirements:
- Shock and Awe: Use the stun gun to stop all immigrants
- Downed: Stop the 1st group of immigrants within 00:30
- Double Downed: Stop the 2nd group of immigrants within 00:55

Apprehend the Suspect
On one of Mount Chiliad’s many trails, you’ll encounter a familiar Park Ranger van parked on the side of the road. Sure enough, the Minute Men have new victims in their sights and these two morons aren’t going to let a little thing like “due process” get in the way of their vendetta.
After the cinematic, Trevor will be in control of their truck, and your target will appear on your minimap. As soon as you have control, you’ll be on the clock for the first Gold Medal requirement:
- Downed: Stop the 1st group of immigrants within 00:30
Immediately turn right and drive off the cliff to reach the road below, pulling up on the side the road facing to the west. Make sure to swap your drive-by weapon to the Stun Gun.
As the target approaches on his Blazer, start moving so that you match his speed. This will give either you or the Minute Men an easy shot with the stun gun for the next Gold Medal requirement:
- Shock and Awe: Use the stun gun to stop all immigrants
If you’re having trouble hitting them, leave it up to Joe and Josef. As long as you can pull up beside the Blazer and get within about 5 feet, they’ll take care of it. Once their suspect is stunned, Joe and Josef will escort their unwilling prisoner to the back of the truck, then give you your next objective.
Go to the Cement Factory
Head to the objective marker, but as you get closer instead of following the path, turn left before you reach the cement factory to reach the next set of suspects sooner, getting a head start on your remaining Gold Medal requirement:
- Double Downed: Stop the 2nd group of immigrants within 00:55
Apprehend the Two Bikers
Pull up beside the first one to let Joe or Josef stun them. If you try shooting them, remember that you’ll still have to bring them down with a stun gun for Shock and Awe. Ignore the first suspect when he’s stunned, and keep after the second one. Again, stun him yourself or let the Minute Men take the shot.
Once the second one is stunned, stop the truck and let Joe and Josef capture the prisoner, then turn around and go back towards the first suspect. Depending on where he landed, his body might be difficult to see among the bushes and scrub. Watch your minimap to avoid accidentally running him over as you head towards him, then stop a short distance away to let Joe and Josef take him into custody as well.
Get out of the truck and Joe will take over the driver’s seat and speed away, leaving you in the desert for the end of the mission.
