Before beginning this mission, it will help considerably if Michael’s stamina stat has already been maxed. Coincidentally, this stat can be improved by running, but also by swimming or riding a bike.

Race Mary-Ann

Michael will find Mary-Ann on the walking trail next to Playa Vista, getting ready for a run by stretching, but she still has time enough to insult Michael’s weight. Through a baffling series of statements, Michael is goaded into an involuntary race and Mary-Ann runs off into an early lead.

Continuously hammer the / button to run faster, but remember the Gold Medal requirement:

Contender: Win the race without using shortcuts

This means that while you can still leave the path and cut across the grass, you can’t jump over the fence to reduce the distance to the next checkpoint.

Otherwise you just have to follow the path, and hit every checkpoint along the way. Head down the road and down the stairs to the pedestrian bridge.

Walking down stairs on both sides of the bridge will slow you down, but you can save this time by jumping repeatedly. Then in the final stretch along Vespucci Beach Mary-Ann will surge. It is here that you will have to keep up your button mashing to stay ahead of her to win the race.
