Borderlands 4 All Side Missions Walkthrough

September 11, 2025 by PowerPyx 13 Comments

Borderlands 4 contains 98 Side Missions. Here you can find walkthroughs for all of them, including their starting locations and unlock requirements. Completing all 98 side missions unlocks the Grassroots Campaigner trophy & achievement.

After the story there’s still free roam and you can clean up any side content you have left. It’s recommended to do as much as possible during the story to level up. This is more efficient as it makes progress in the main missions easier. Side Missions get marked on the map by blue “!” exclamation points when unfogging the area around them. You should unfog the map early on so that you see when new side missions appear. New ones get added when you progress through the story. The contracts (miniquests from contract boards) don’t count towards the 98 side missions. Only the ones given by NPCs with blue exclamation marks count as side missions.

While the challenge counter on Missions > Challenges > World > Grassroots Campaigner shows 98 side missions, there actually only seem to be 96 and some count double on the challenge. Doing all the below brings the challenge tracker to 98 and unlocks the Grassroots Campaigner trophy/achievement. You can check what missions you’ve done under Missions > Replay, filter by Location or Name.

Side Quests by Area

Note: side missions that are part of questlines are listed under the area where the questline starts. Example: Brew-ha-ha technically starts in Coastal Bonescape, but is part of the questline in The Low Leys. Questlines are indented bullet points in the list.

5 Side Missions are hidden and unmarked: Breeding Daisies, Forgive Me, The Neverending Quarry, A Quarry of Epic Proportions, The Final Quarrel. If you’re missing any missions it’s likely these. Everything else gets marked by blue “!” icons when unfogging the map.

I had a random mission pop up in coastal bonescape where I had to kill a random boss, his name had something to do with wormhole or blackhole. At the start I saw a random platform with a chest near the Pool of Re-flex-tion, I had to slam into it to open a the barrier and be able to open the chest (I tried to go to the same position multiple times on a different character, but the platform was never there. It must be a random spawn or have a specific condition to spawn). After I slammed into it 2 random houses spawned with enemies, after killing them I saw a big blue circle and when I walked in it the mission started with the boss. I can’t find anything about it online and can’t get it to reappear in any way. Maybe someone else can try to get this mission to pop up.

where was this located in the region exactly?

I just found it accidentally while exploring – it’s in Cuspid climb – specifically in a cave (marked by a large thresher/animal skull) in the entrance. You can find it across from ‘The Reliquary’ silo. From there go East until you find a bridge, and then follow the river to its end. It roughly forms a triangle between itself, the Silo, and ‘The Old Scrape’ drill event.

This is correct, and to add to it, you have to kill the psycho that comes out and he will drop a bolt that starts the side quest.

To continue the quest, you need to travel to the north west corner of the Stoneblood Forest (Terminus Range) and enter a cave that has an ammo vending machine and 3 training dummies. It is located to the left of an echo log and above Claptrap Aeronautics Academy.

Place the bolt on the bowl and eventually you will have to listen to Vycarias, the Lore-Singer, in which you will sit there for like 10 minutes listening to the tale, and then the quest will complete.

The quest is a Dark Souls reference of some sort (i’m not aware of it personally but thats what i found online)

Side Missions should be complete now. With everything listed my tracker on Grassroots Campaigner challenge shows 98.

However, there is something odd going on with that challenge tracker.
So far there are only 96 unique different side missions found. Yet the tracker is at 98. I tried to narrow down where it jumped up more than it should – my first two side missions were “Abduction Injunction” and “Meat is Murder”. After this it was 3/98 instead of 2/98. Meat is Murder somehow counted as two side missions for me (I checked after Alien Abduction and that only counted as one). I retested this on a new save and was able to repeat this again at Meat is Murder. Not sure after which other side missions it jumped up more.

I’m not sure if this is the same for everyone or if my challenge tracker is bugging ‘in a good way’ that gave me more progress. So either there are only 96 side missions and two count double (for no good reason), or there are 2 more side missions.

If anyone can confirm if the above missions bring your challenge to 98 too that’d be appreciated.

I was at 96/98 and missing Forgive Me. After finishing that quest, the tracker went to 98/98 and I got the achievement.

I’m on 97/98 side missions done. Map is cleared and 5 secret missions are done, anyone else have this happen to them or know a solution?

if you just cleared the secret mission breeding daisies, relog and check the farm where you have done the quest, there is one follow quest.

Some side missions only appeared after I quit to the main menu and restarted the game.

Same here! I have done all the secrets (I believe it’s actually 6 not 5 so you could be missing a secret). But I have done ever secret and am also stuck at 97/98! No idea what to do. I’ve heard the abduction mission “should” count for 2 but there could be a bug where it’s counting for 1… this could be our problem :/
