Sage Against the Machine is a side mission in Borderlands 4 (BL4). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Sage Against the Machine Side Quest.
- Starting Location: Terminus Range > Stoneblood Forest
- Quest Giver: Brody Sattva
- Unlock Requirement: After Main Mission 4: A Lot to Process
- Reward: XP, Cash, Assault Rifle (Green to Purple rarity), Eridium
- Quest Description: Your inner child cries out for reconciliation with their generational trauma as the flower yearns to blossom. Soothe your soul and silence the spirit with the aid of… a Ripper life coach. I mean, this guy seems to have his shit together, surely he knows what he’s talking about.
Objectives:
- Take mood rock
- Find Path of Opportunities
- Cultivate awareness of rippers (by killing them)
- Reach Stones of Balance
- Reach highest point
- Check in with mood rock
- Pick up mood rock
- Reach Den of Acceptance
- Talk to your negative self -or- Smack your negative self
- Kill your negative self/…and its friends
- Return to Brody
- Place mood rock
- Turn mood rock
- Loot your reward
Starting Location: Sage Against the Machine
This mission starts in the south of Stoneblood Forest, it will get marked when unfogging the area.
Take mood rock
Take the quest item ‘Ego Priam’ from off the counter.
Find Path of Opportunities
Head northwest to the mission marker. Continue up the road from there to the next mission marker. Once in Crueltown you will speak to Brody again.
Cultivate awareness of rippers (by killing them)
Do as the objective wants and defeat all the rippers in the area.
Reach Stones of Balance
Head to the woods where the mission marker is.
Reach highest point
For this you will need to scale the shack and make your way up to the highest point out across some beams. Start by getting on the outer first floor of the house, then climb the ladder and climb on the next roof. Glide to the taller rock slightly south, from the top of the rock glide to the house roof. Then glide over to the platform that’s marked and Brody will call again.
Check in with mood rock
The mood rock is on the highest platform so don’t jump off during the call. Interact with the rock on the ledge.
Pick up mood rock
Hopefully you didn’t jump down, grab the mood rock you just placed.
Reach Den of Acceptance
The den is close to the west, head over to it and Ricky will call
Talk to your negative self -or- Smack your negative self
Approach Ricky and melee him to smack him or you can speak to him, the results will be the same.
Kill your negative self/…and its friends
Ricky will become hostile and bring out some friends. Kill them all.
Return to Brody
Head to Brody at the mission marker and speak to him.
Place mood rock
Place the rock back on the table.
Turn mood rock
Interact with the rock again.
Loot your reward
Head over to the chest and open it for your reward.
This finishes Sage Against the Machine side mission in Borderlands 4.

For the reaching the higher part, just stack the boxes. No need to do all the fancy flying
