What Lies Dreaming is the 4th main mission in Borderlands 4 DLC #1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the What Lies Dreaming. Main Quest.

- Quest Description: The maelstrom around the megalith is seemingly impenetrable, but there may be a way through. You must help Ellie navigate the increasingly nightmarish forces arrayed against you.

Starting Location: What Lies Dreaming
Reach storm
Just follow the quest marker to the big red storm.
Reach ship
Now reach the ship on the south side of the map.
Reach Ellie
You will find her in front of the entrance.
Assist Ellie
She will be attacked by some enemies, just kill them.
Talk to Ellie
After killing the enemies, talk to Ellie.
Scan hull weak spots
The hull has three spots to check. Just interact with all of them.
Destroy vent
After scanning the last spot, shoot the vent to open it.
Reach cargo bay
Follow the vent to reach the cargo bay.
Open cargo bay door
When you enter the cargo bay, climb up the machine in the middle, then jump to the platform to reach the door.
Reach cargo bay control room
Since the terminal did not work to open the door, you have to reach the control room, which is on the other side of the bay. Just follow the quest marker.
Restore power & Restart breaker
Inside the control room, interact with both marked terminals to restore the power.
Hack console
Now hack the console near the window.
Open cargo bay doors
Now head back to the cargo bay door that you could not open earlier and open them this time to let Ellie in.
Kill creeps
After opening the doors, you will be attacked by some enemies. Kill them all.
Follow Ellie
Once you kill all enemies, follow Ellie.
Reach elevator with Ellie
After a small conversation, follow Ellie to an elevator.
Reach cryo pod room & Restore power to elevator
From the elevator, turn around and get to the other side of the bay to find a battery. Get it with your grappling hook.
Then bring it back to the elevator.
Reach cryo pod room & Defend Ellie
When you place the battery, you will get attacked by enemies. Kill them all. After killing the enemies, pull the lever to use the elevator.
After using the elevator, follow Ellie into the next room.
Give keystone fragment
Here, give Ellie the fragment.
Push forward
After you give Ellie the fragment, another Nightmare section begins. Complete it, then move forward and destroy the vent to go through it.
Reach engine room
After the vent, you will come to a closed door.
From here, turn around, move forward and turn right. Crawl through the opening in the wall and grab the battery.
Bring the battery to the closed door to open it.
Kill Dahl
After going through the previous door, you reach the engine room. Here, just kill all enemies.
Reach main controls
Once you kill the enemies, get upstairs to reach the main controls.
Activate switch
Just activate the switch on the main controls.
Find engine override controls
The override controls are in the middle of the room.
Hack console
Interact with the console on the override controls.
Access engine override & Retrieve keycard
From the override controls, turn left to find a vent in the corner to drop down.
Here you will find the keycard on a metal beam on the ground.
Access engine override & Place keycard
Get back to the override controls in the engine room and place the keycard.
Reach spark plug
From the override controls, turn around and look above you, use your grappling hook to get up there.
Jumpstart engine
Then use your grappling hook multiple times to start the engine.
Unlock path & Activate power switch
Get to the other side of the engine room, and use the power switch.
Reach Ellie
Now follow the quest marker, and you will reach a gap that you can not cross just yet.
Cross gap & Remove debris
Shoot the debris from the jump pad.
Cross gap & Inspect jump pad
Then interact with the jump pad.
Cross gap & Find and destroy power regulators x2
From the jump pad, turn around and shoot both power regulators.
Cross gap & Activate jump pad
Now activate the jump pad on the terminal nearby.
Then use the jump pad to reach the other side.
Find Ellie
A little conversation starts. After that, enter the building in front of you.
Reach war room
Follow the way inside, and you will reach two vendors. Get some ammo here and drop down the hole after to start a boss fight.
Kill Crash
Just kill the boss.
Take keycard
After killing Crash, pick up the keycard from where he dies.
Place keycard
Place the keycard in a terminal near Ellie.
Reach bridge
After placing the keycard, follow Ellie and Moxxi into the next room. A small conversation starts. Then use the portal to The Maelstrom nearby.
Search bridge command
Move forward and you will find the dead bridge command. Interact with him.
Open blast doors
After interacting with the bridge command, turn around and use the switch. This triggers a cutscene.
This finishes What Lies Dreaming. in Borderlands 4.
