Starting Location: Exit Through the Rift Shop
This mission can start in multiple locations:
Location #1: The Fadefields > Hungering Plain
Location #2: Carcadia Burn > Ruined Sumplands
Location #3: Terminus Range > Cuspid Climb
Location #4: Terminus Range > Low Leys
Find Francis Oddman
Regardless of where you start this quest, you will get a call from Francis Oddman as soon as you accept the quest from one of the bodies that fell out of the sky.
He can then be found in The Fadefields > Dissected Plateau, inside a facility. From “Deep Seven” Order Silo jump down in front of it, after landing at the bottom of the area turn towards the quest marker and go through the open door of the facility building (entrance is slightly south of the objective marker). This leads to Oddman.
Reach Order encampment
He sends you to an enemy camp to get some parts. It’s in Coastal Bonescape, quick to reach by fast traveling to the safehouse (or Order Silo) there.
If you didn’t unlock the “Deep Seven” Order Silo near Oddman yet, you should do so now as you’ll need to travel back to him later.
Gather machine parts (x3)
Inside the camp there are many enemies. Optionally, you can kill them or go straight for the objectives.
Look for the silver metal pipes with blue markers on them. You must melee attack them to destroy the cover, then pick up the machine part.
#1 – on the right side on the upper deck where most enemies are.
#2 – on the left side on the upper deck where most enemies are.
#3 – from the previous two locations, jump off the west side of the deck into the water. Then swim brown metal platform next to two sluice gates to find this. Below the deck where the previous two parts were.
Return to Franci Oddman
Return to Oddman where you met him before.
Fix Franci Oddman’s machine
Place the 3 machine parts on the purple glowing machine upstairs.
Enter rift
A difficult enemy section will begin after you enter the rift. Make sure you’re well prepared.
When ready. press R3 / “V” (on PC) to grapple into the purple orb at the machine. It teleports you to an enemy area.
Kill Order forces
Defeat all enemies in the new area.
Release prisoners
After all enemies are defeated, go upstairs to the prison cells with red force fields. Press the button on the console at the stairs to release the prisoners.
Optional: Talk to prisoners
Talk to the 3 prisoners before doing the main objective, they will run downstairs and have blue markers on them. They provide some extra dialogue and this helps to get the better mission reward.
Find way out of lab / Gain access to storage room
Upstairs where the holding cells are, where you released the prisoners, go to the end of the path past the holding cells. There you find a grate you can pull out. This reveals the path into the storage room. If you scan with
/ ‘Z’ it will guide you to it.
In the storage room, break the 4 blue locks on the lockers. One of them contains a chunk or Eridium.
Throw Eridium into rift
Grab the Eridium chunk from the locker and leave the storage room through the front door (it’s red but will open). Backtrack to where you entered the area and toss it into the purple rift.
Exit Lab
Grapple the purple rift to leave.
Kill Order forces
More enemies arrive, kill them.
Confront Francis Oddman
Talk to Oddman at his machine where you met before.
Punch Francis Oddman / Shoot Francis Oddman
Missable Trophy/Achievement Rift Incompatible (Find Oddman’s final resting place.): You have to punch Oddman, only then the trophy can be earned in the next step. DON’T shoot him as it will void the trophy.
If you punch him, he will get pushed into the rift below him and disappears. If you shoot him, he dies right there and drops dead on the floor.
The side mission instantly completes after this.
Oddman’s Final Resting Place – Rift Incompatible Trophy/Achievement
Any time after you finish the side mission, go to this location in Terminus Range > Windspear region, where a Dead Bolt collectible is you will find Oddman frozen in the ice:
Note that he will appear there even if you shot him but the trophy/achievement won’t unlock in this case. It only unlocks if you punched him, which is why this is missable.
If you missed this, proceed to finish the story. After the story you can go to Title Screen > New Game > Ultimate Vault Hunter – this starts a Level 30 character on the post-story save with all side content immediately accessible. Then you can replay the quest from there right away. You could also join a friend in co-op who punched Oddman.
This finishes Exit Through the Rift Shop side mission in Borderlands 4.

This mission was available for me already after completing Main Quest 17: The Falling Wall.

If you’re playing with a level 30 start then this quest can be started from the sites mentioned with no prerequisites. There’s no need to replay main quest 21, which is just as well as you can’t.
