Starting Location: Fault Hunting

This mission can start in two locations which become available at different times. Both are in the Ruined Sumplands.

Starting Location #1 – in the west of Ruined Sumplands, available from Main Mission 7: Wrath of the Ripper Queen onward.

Starting Location #2 – inside Carcadia faction town, becomes available there during Main Mission 9: Unpaid Tab, after restoring power to Carcadia town and enabling the vending machines. Can be found on the questboard there.

Reach cave

Seismology enthusiast Leopold is picking up signs of an earthquake and wants you to investigate the cave that’s source of the unusual vibrations. Go to the objective marker in the north of the Sumplands and enter the cave.

Explore cave / Kill creeps

In the cave glide over the gust of wind to proceed. Scan with  / Z (PC) to have the location line guide you through the cave. When you reach a locked door you must defeat some creeps (bug/spiker-like enemies).

Search area (Optional)

After killing the enemies, pick up the blue item in front of the door on the left, near a drill. Then interact with the door. This finishes the optional objective.

Enter facility

The door is locked. You must use the gust of wind to the right of the door to fly up.

Then go through the cave to drop into the facility.

When you reach a stuck door that quickly opens and closes, look through it on the right side when it’s open and shoot the power cell on the wall (behind the door).

Keep following the location line until you reach a big room and the objective updates.

Search server room (Optional)

Interact with the green outlined monster remains at the bottom of the room.

Find server console

Interact with the green outlined console on the upper section of the room to the right of where you entered.

Find power source

Interact with the green outlined machine across from the console.

Direct power to server console

Look at the ceiling above the power source machine. Follow the lit wires on the ceiling and you’ll see a grapple prompt where the power line ends (press R3 / V). You must flip these grapple points on the ceiling until electrified part reaches the console where we tried interacting with the console. The image below shows what the finished power line looks like:

Hack into server console / Defend ECHO-4

Interact again with the console from before. While ECHO-4 hacks it, defeat the wave of creeps.

After the hack is done, a hologram of Zedra will appear. Wait for her to finish talking. After a short delay, an AI voice called Genone will talk to you (the objectives remain blue as ‘complete’ for about 2-3 minutes). After the Genone AI is done talking it will advance the objective.

Reach Genone

Go through the now-open door in the south side of the room, use the grappling point at the top and leave the cave. Genone is far away in Lopside region, near the Makeshift Chalet safehouse.

You must drop down the west side of the cliffs there to reach the cave entrance. The location line will guide you there. Approach the door, Genone will open it for you, then go through the facility.

Confront Genone / Kill Synth prototypes

When you reach a room that looks like a replica of the previous facility, defeat all the robotic enemies.

Activate console

Afterward flip the switch by the red locked door.

Direct power to door

Just like before you must redirect the power using the lines on the ceiling. Here’s what the finished power line looks like (blue):

Confront Genone

Go through the door and through the contamination chamber (takes half a minute to decontaminate you, then the next door opens). In the next room there are yellow glowing holograms. Wait for Genone to finish talking and go up the ladder in the middle of the room (scan to see it highlighted and follow location line). After some vending machines you can drop down to the boss room.

Kill Genone

Genone has a lot of health and also calls other robotic enemies for help. His shield is weak to Shock, and his armor is weak to Corrosive.

Find control room keycard

After the boss fight, you find the blue keycard behind the machine where Genone came out of.

Access control room

Use the keycard on the console in the back right corner of the room.

Power down facility

Flip the switch in the control room. Leopold will call to thank you and the mission ends here. You can fast travel to exit the area.
