Red Dead Redemption 2 American Venom Walkthrough

November 26, 2018 by Jack McBastard 7 Comments

American Venom is the 108th main story mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of  Main Quest including all Gold Medals for 100% completion.

American Venom is unlocked after completing A New Future Imagined.

Quest Giver: Abigail Roberts
Chapter: Epilogue – Part 2
Region: West Elizabeth

Gold Medal Requirements:

  • Help Sadie catch Cleet within 35 seconds
  • Headshot the sniper who shoots Charles
  • Complete with at least 85% accuracy
  • Complete the mission without taking any health items

Starting Location: Beecher’s Hope, West Elizabeth

Talk to Abigail

  • GOLD MEDAL: Complete the mission without taking any health items

After a short discussion with Abigail about dinner, Charles calls you outside. Sadie has found Cleet, who will lead you to Micah. Ride to Strawberry.

  • GOLD MEDAL: Help Sadie catch Cleet within 35 seconds

As soon as you reach Strawberry, go straight across the bridge and you’ll see Cleet immediately.

Run after him and chase him till Sadie tackles him in the street.

Beat him for a bit while he dodges questions, then drag him to the gallows.

Force him up the stairs, at gunpoint if need be. Then tie the noose around his neck.

Walk over to the lever and see how receptive he is to questioning now. Pull back slowly to break his resolve.

He tells you where to find Micah, and now you can choose to hang or spare him. Though sparing him will give you honor, Sadie makes sure he doesn’t receive clemency.

Get on your horse, and follow Sadie to Mount Hagen. Charles mentions that there’s an old watchtower up on the mountain that they might be using for their camp.

A moment later, Charles gets shot by a sniper. Dismount and get to cover!

  • GOLD MEDAL: Headshot the sniper who shoots Charles
  • GOLD MEDAL: Complete with at least 85% accuracy

Get closer, moving from cover to cover until you get a clean shot. Take the headshot to fulfill the gold medal requirements.

Run back to Charles to check on him. He has been gravely wounded, but insists that you go on without him, claiming that he’ll follow as quickly as he can. Make the hard choice and go on without him.

Follow Sadie up the mountain, shooting wave after wave of Micah’s goons. Take your time, since there’s no time limit. Stay in cover to protect yourself, and only shoot when you’re sure of your shot. There are many targets, so don’t be in any rush to charge into danger prematurely.

Eventually when you’re nearing the top of the mountain, you and Sadie will get caught by an ambush, with Sadie sustaining a gruesome knife wound to the side.  Remarkably she is saved by Charles, who shoots her attacker in the back before he can do any more damage. You leave her with Charles, and proceed on your own.

At the top of the next hill you meet up with Joe, one of Micah’s main stooges. Use Dead Eye to take him and his two friends off the mountain.

As you reach the crest and head downward on the other side, the fight will become largely long range combat. Switch out for your rifle and advance slowly. Cover is irregular, and often not at the correct angle to block every shot. Stick close to walls and edge around them, trying to spot the snipers before they spot you.

After multiple snipers and riflemen, you will eventually approach the top. Five target areas will appear on your minimap, each of which will have to be searched to find Micah. Keep an eye out for more gunmen as you go however, there is never a moment where you’re safe. Take it slow, move from cover to cover and use your Dead Eye liberally.

Eventually you will come face to face with the traitor himself.

After a cinematic, you’ll scramble for cover and engage in a old fashioned gunfight with the yellow bastard.

Stay in cover try to force him to move position by shooting at the lantern above his head, or the cover he’s hiding behind.

Once he’s there, Sadie will have him dead to rights.

…until Dutch shows up. Now its a party.

Sadie and Micah will scuffle, with you helpless to intervene. You find yourself in a bit of a standoff. If you shoot Micah, Dutch will shoot you. You have to do something to tip the scales. Keep working on Dutch to see reason, to remember what Arthur said about Micah being a rat. Don’t take your gun off of Micah for very long.

Eventually you sway Dutch, and he shoots Micah.

With his last strength he tries to shoot back. You will go into Dead Eye automatically. Strike down upon him with great vengeance and furious anger.

Watch the ending cinematic, and enjoy the fruits of your labors. Congratulations, you have finished the story of Red Dead Redemption 2!

This finishes American Venom main mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now go look for collectibles and challenges in free roam!

I’m on pc but not Steam. Too many bugs to get gold medals, e.g. while on horseback, nothing works, including deadeye, greet, aiming (intermittant), response to any query and so forth. The only thing that is always reliable is getting off the horse. lmao
I hate that the game regularly changes your weapon loadout.
I was never able to get Arthur to perfect health until he got TB: always underweight. And Marston in epilogue is always underweight no matter how much he eats.
Also Lasso only works when my player is grounded, not on horse. And fishing doesn’t work either.

What exactly do you need to do to advance past the shootout with Micah? Can you stay in cover or do you have to fire shots? And will these shots (lantern) count against your accuracy?

Hopefully you’ve had 100% accuracy until this point. The lantern has a red reticle with an auto-aim lock so I don’t think it counts against you, but you will need to waste a shot getting him out from his second cover. However, you only need to attempt to aim for him when he moves to the outhouse. Don’t waste a bullet, there. Sadie will fix that for you.
