Duchesses and other Animals is a Stranger Mission Strand (Side Questline) in Red Dead Redemption 2. This Walkthrough shows how to complete the Stranger Missions and where to find its Collectibles.
Quest Giver: Algernon Wasp
Region: North of Saint Denis
Requirements: having finished The Gilded Cage (Chapter 4)
Reward: $ 760, Hat, Revolver
Duchesses and other Animals Starting Location
Mid-Chapter 4, we have the opportunity to meet another unique Stranger. He resides in a Growing House behind the Blue Hotel north of Saint Denis. This man by the name of Algernon Wasp is looking for some exotic things, mainly different Orchids and Birds Plumes.

He will hand you a list with four things he needs. When obtained and returned, this will happen four more times.
The ingredients are scattered around a lot – mainly the eastern half of the map. If you happen to find some of the things he wants in upcoming parts of this mission, be sure to collect them already – this will save lots of time.
Generally, it is a good idea to press 
+ 
at all times when you are searching an area for the required materials. This Eagle Vision will highlight plants and animals in your surroundings with some sort of glow- and particle-effect.
Exotics Locations
Refer to the Exotics Locations Guide which shows where to find all the exotics for the 5 requests.
Return the Exotics to Algernon Wasp
After each set of exotics, you must return to the quest giver Algernon Wasp to get the next exotics quest. After all 5 quests the “Exotics” get checked off from the Collectibles in the 100% Completion Checklist.

Is this quest a missable? Can it be done in the epilogue or does it need to be done by chapter 6?

I completed it so it is there you just have to find it it’s right as you leave saint Denis in a small green house with 2 statues outside of it

I finished the game “main campaign”, and cannot find Algernon anymore. someone help.
I’m om the same position, don’t know what to do. I have all the items for his request but no way to turn it in. He icon isn’t on the map and he isn’t in his greenhouse. You ever figure this out?
He was there for me after the story. Have you tried at a different daytime? Try in morning, midday, evening, night (make camp from item wheel to advance time).
This mission must’ve been started by my mate, whose game/PS4 it actually is. It seems it can stop the Acuna’s Star Orchid from spawning and thus prevent me from completing Herbalist Challenge #9 – collecting all plants!
I’ve been to 2 of its known locations but it’s not on the trees! I’m stuck on 40/43, but think I can get 42/43, but have to complete this side quest now first to get the Acuna’s Star spawning again.
From start to finish, about how long will this take in real time to collect all requested items?
it takes a while but the rewards are worth it since having 2 of the Double action Revolvers (one you get while your playing the game) makes you even better at taking things down fast
According to the game guide there are 10 Acuna’s star Orchid. I could only find 2. At the other 8 locations the orchids are not spawned. I also have the same problem with other orchid species. There I am always missing another one. Can anyone help?
They will stop spawning if your not in that part of the quest, some may let you gather until you need one more, others only 2 or 3. Once you get the note for those orchids they will spawn again in said locations. It does it so you can’t complete the hunt before the that part.
I’ve collected all the egret plumes and orchids even before I met with him. But I haven’t seen his icon come back up since so I can finish part 1.
