Red Dead Redemption 2 Secrets & Easter Eggs

Red Dead Redemption 2 contains a lot of secrets and hidden easter eggs you may have missed during the story. This page contains all the Red Dead Redemption 2 Secrets we could find, including Easter Eggs and some Secret Weapons.

#1 – Secret Alien UFO

Inside a Shack at a small lake in the north of New Hanover you can find a written document that reports of a “Voyager of Time and Galaxies”. Get the document and return to the shack at exactly 2am and then look up. You’ll be able to see a green UFO.

#2 – Bonnie MacFarlane Easter Egg

A reference to a  prominent side character of the original Red Dead Redemption can be found in the form of a love letter.

#3 – The Hobbit (The Shire)

This building resembles The  Shire from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

#4 – Watching a Meteor Strike

If you enter the cabin just west of Brandywine Drop, a macabre scene awaits inside.

#5 – Creepy Exorcist Woman

To the west of Braithwaite Manor, you will run across a locked outhouse in the woods where the Braithwaites hide a family secret.

#6 – Finding Bigfoot

The remains of Bigfoot / Giant can be found close to the top of Mt Shawn.

#7 – Creepy Nite Folk Ghosts

A random encounter at the swamps outside Saint Denis, sees a dead body hanging from the trees. What comes next is extremely creeeeepy.

#8 – Arthur Gets Knocked Out at Camp

Annoying the camp over and over will trigger a secret cutscene.

#9 – Jungle Book Easter Egg (Kaa Giant Snake)

A nod to the Jungle book can be found in the form of a giant snake resembling Kaa.

#10 – Crazy Witch Cauldron

This strange shack is built in a remote location, it contains a strange liquid that we dare you to try!

#11 – Second Alien UFO Starship

After triggering the first UFO, you can visit Mt Shawn at the dead of night and trigger a second mysterious Alien UFO.

#12 – Secret Mutant Creature Experiment

A mutant experiment can be found in an abandoned house. We don’t think it was successful.

#13 – Secret Church

A tiny church can be found in the swamps. You will need to crouch to take a look inside.

#14 – Secret Flying Machine (Crashed Airship)

A reference to Red Dead Redemption 1 can be spotted in the form of a crashed airship.

#15 – Creepy Nite Folk Ambush

Another random encounter in the swamps sees a crying / screaming lady lure you into a trap. Watch out!

#16 – Prehistoric Mammoth

The remains of a giant mammoth can be found in the snowy regions.

#17 – Secret Sasquatch Discovered

To trigger this easter egg you must have discovered 30 different animals and follow the flock of birds all the way to the location. Follow the video for more information.

#18 – Meteor Strike

Close by to the meteor house you can find the impact that meteor has has on the land with a massive gaping hole.

#19 – Meeting the KKK (Ku Klux Klan)

A random night encounter can result in the KKK inducting a new member. It doesn’t all go to plan though…

#20 – Scary Ghost in the Swamp at Night

Heading to the Swamps at 2am will help in triggering a random encounter with a ghost. When you get too close, she will disappear.

#21 – Meeting the Devil

A man claiming to be the devil can spotted in a random cave. There will be different dialogue if you come back every few days.

#22 – The Hobbit Barrel Rider

Another nod to the Hobbit can be found next to the river west of the Hobbit House.

#23 – Undead Nightmare (Secret RDR1 Cutscene)

A store in Saint Denis stores a secret mask that Undead Nightmare fans will recognize.

#24 – Beastility

If you visit this farm, in the left shack you will find a dead man and a black sheep that seem to be married? Weirdddd…

#25 – Geoff Ramsey

One of the post office clerks is voiced by Geoff Ramsey who is the co-founder of Rooster Teeth.

#26 – Vampire Discovered

There is a terrifying encounter with a Vampire triggered by interacting with the 5 markings around Saint Denis. Follow the video to trigger him for yourself.

#27 – King of the Forest

North of Annesburg, at the very northern end of the map, you can find a hermit sitting in a tree. He believes himself to be the king of the forest, which is a funny little encounter.

#28 – Deformed Singing Man

There is a mutant man sitting on a porch and playing on his guitar. If you stare for too long he will start shooting at you.

#29 – Ghost Train

A ghost train can be seen in the below video. It’s much shorter than your “real” trains and makes an eery sound as it drives past you.

#30 – Secret Killer Robot

From Chapter 4 onwards you can start a quest with Marko Dragic, an inventor that resembles Nikola Tesla. Complete the side quests and follow the video to see what really happens in the end.

#31 – Secret Tombstone

South of Van Horn Trading Post, is a secret mass grave with a tombstone. Many workers are buried here, as is evident by the markings on the grave stone with their “worker numbers” and death dates.

#32 – Scary Bear Jump Scare

All the bears in Red Dead Redemption 2 randomly show up in the wilderness, right? Not quite! There is a bear hidden inside a small hut that also contains items requested by your gang members. As soon as you enter the door, you get mauled by a bear instantly! A deadly jumpscare.

#33 – Bully (Secret Weapon)

RDR2 contains a well-hidden reference to the video game “Bully”, which was published by Rockstar Games back in 2006. The slogan on the game’s box art was “Canis Canem Edit” which is edged into a weapon you can pick up at the end of the Gunslingers Questline. It means “Dog Eats Dog”.

#34 – Catherine Braithwaite

Visit the burned-out manor from Chapter 4 onward and you will find the body of Catherine Braithwaite in the ruins along with some other secret items.

#35 – Gray’s Secret

The Grays also have something to hide in the back of their manor, in the form of a secret letter.

#36 – Face in the Cliff

You can find a stone face on the side of a mountain, north of Moonbstone Pond (Grizzlies East region).

#37 – Feral Wolf Man

A feral Wolf Man is running around by the river at Roanoke Valley. He makes weird “wolf sounds”. He’s a wild man who grew up among the wolves and doesn’t know he’s a man. When you scare him, he runs to his cave and hides behind some other wolves, which are basically “his family”. If you kill those wolves he will cower next to them, a sad sight, but goes to show how much detail Rockstar puts into their games with even small side encounters.

#38 – Fossilized Man

West of Roanoke Valley, there are fossilized remains of a man on a mountainside. Arthur will scribble a note about this “point of interest” in his book.

#39 – Walking Dead

A nod to the Walking Dead can be found in an abandoned village called Pleasance.

#40 – Talking Trees

There are talking trees in the woods west of Roanoke Valley. This is super creepy when you have your headphones on, play the game at night, and randomly come across these ghostly whispers in the middle of nowhere.

#41 – Faces in the Trees

Talking trees aren’t enough for you? Check out the Faces that are edged into the trees west of Owanjila lake. There are multiple of these. Artful! Arthur will even scribble something about this in his notebook.

#42 – Meditating Monk

A meditating Monk can be spotted keeping to himself. You can try to annoy him but he will not respond in anything other then mannerisms.

#43 – Satan Pentagram Ritual Mystery

This is one of the creepiest secret mysteries in Red Dead Redemption 2 and part of it may still be unsolved. Between 4am – 5am you can find a red glowing satanic pentagram in a tiny hut north-west of Van Horn Trading Post, in the woods. If you make a camp there at night, a woman can show up and tell you of a demon that consumes the villagers. She starts to get frightened of you and tries to run off. The pentagram is actually under the shack, it’s unclear if there’s more to be done here, potentially a ritual or sacrifice. Anyway, check it out, it’s a rather creepy encounter.

#44 – Frozen Settler

On Mount Hagen (Grizzlies West), there’s a frozen settler from a long time ago. You can steal his army helmet and use it yourself!

#45 – Secret Gorilla

In the West Grizzlies, you can find a secret Gorilla inside a box!

#46 – The Assassination of Jesse James

The Assassination of Jesse James is a Biography / Crime movie from the year 2007. It revolves around a man trying to join a gang of outlaws, but he gradually gets resentful towards the gang leader. Sounds like the plot of Red Dead Redemption 2, doesn’t it? The Rockstar team honored their inspiration with its own easter egg, by remaking a train robbery scene of the movie into a game cutscene! This happens during Pouring Forth Oil III & IV.

#47 – Giant Whale

West of Owanjila lake you can find the huge skeleton of a Whale. How it got there? Who knows, but Arthur scribbles a depiction of it in his notebook when he sees it!

#48 – Paying Homage to the Original Game

In Red Dead Redemption 1, there was an iconic moment where John Marston Travels to Mexico whilst the song “Far Away” plays as you ride. In Red Dead Redemption 2 there’s a similar scene for Arthur.

#49 – Secret Frozen Man

The frozen mountains of Ambarino are a tough place of land to survive in. One hunter succumbed to the harsh weather conditions and froze to death. His corpse can be seen sitting in the snow, west of Deadboot Creek.

#50 – Donkey Lady

There is a clever reference to a glitch in Red Dead Redemption, which had an animal glitch into a random human NPC.

#51 – American Horror Story Easter Egg

The TV series “American Horror Story” Season 4 was about a “Freak Show”. One of their “attractions” was conjoined twins. The remains can be found in an abandoned wandering circus cart in Red Dead Redemption 2.

#52 – Secret Obelisk

West of Owanjla lake there’s an Obelisk at the end of the map. It’s an interesting sight.

#53 – The Strange Man

In the general store in Armadillo you can see photo from the Strange Man from the original Red Dead Redemption.

#54 – Herbert Moon’s Brother

Herbert Moon was a shopkeeper from the first Red Dead Redemption. We can find his brother’s grave in Red Dead Redemption 2.

#55 – Meeting old Friends

After the story a new shop opens up. In it you can meet a certain someone. This is endgame stuff with spoilers so beat the story first before checking out this scene (video link).

#56 – Erotic Photographs

Hidden in a cave in a box are some erotic photographs. And yes, you can actually view them from your satchel. This is the treasure from solving the Torn Treasure Map Hunt.

#57 – Exploding House

When you approach this building, it will be consumed by a large explosion.

#58 – Seth Briar

Seth Briar was an NPC from the first game. You can revisit his house to find a Fertility Statue. This area isn’t available until you’ve beaten the story. This can be considered spoilers so only watch after the story (video link).

#59 – Old Viking Scripts

A stone with Viking scripts can be found at the shore north-east of Annesburg.

#60 – [Redacted]

There’s a funny reference to the first game but it’s happening after the story so contains endgame spoilers. Only watch after having finished the game yourself (video link).

#61 – Defaced Mystery Grave

There’s a destroyed grave at Barrow Lagoon in the northern snowy part of the map with a gravestone that says “No Ice in Hell”. Who could be behind this?

#62 – Screaming Lady Man

In a treehouse in the middle of nowhere is a strange character that screams and yells “Leave me Alone” and ‘What do you Want”. The voice sounds like a lady but when you shot the treehouse you will see it’s actually a man.

#63 – Secret UFO Script

In the mountains of Mt Shawn are some strange Symbols that seem to showcase the 5 alien UFO locations across the map.

#64 – Secret 100% Completion Scene

After reaching 100% game completion you get to see a secret cutscene. This contains heavy game ending spoilers, only watch after having completed the game yourself (video link).

#65 – Meteor Shower

If you happen to be close to the meteor house at 2am at night, head to the field directly west and look up.

#66 – Escaping Slave

Close to Shady Belle is a man dead and washed up on shore. He is an escaping slave that didn’t quite make it out alive.

#67 – Whiskey Tree

A tree can be discovered covered in whiskey and bourbons bottles. If you focus you can see that one of the bottles hanging from the tree can be shot down for loot. Take a look for yourself!

#68 – Jesuit Missionary

In the south-west of New Austin (after beating the story), a dead Jesuit Missionary can be found. He holds a letter from Cardinal Bianco that you can read to learn more of the dead man’s fate.

#69 – Shawshank Redemption

There is a place in Red Dead Redemption 2 which is modeled exactly after a scene of the 1994 movie “The Shawshank Redemption”.

#70 – The Revenant

More movie references anyone? There’s a scene in the Grizzlies West region that looks a lot like a movie scene from The Revenant.
