Red Dead Redemption 2 The Noblest of Men, and a Woman Walkthrough

October 25, 2018 by dalailama1989 7 Comments

The Noblest of Men, and a Woman is a Stranger Mission Strand (Side Questline) in Red Dead Redemption 2. This Walkthrough shows how to complete the Stranger Missions and deal with the Gunslingers.

Quest Giver: Jim Boy Calloway / Theodore Levin
Region: Valentine
Requirements: none for Part I; having finished Story Mission “A Fine Night of Debauchery” in late Chapter 4 for Parts II-IV

Note: The weapons dropped by the Gunslingers are unique. It’s not possible to get them outside of this mission.

The Noblest of Men, and a Woman Starting Location

This mission is likely one of the first ones you will discover. It starts in the Saloon in Valentine, close to the first camp of the gang.

Biographer Theodore Levin is in the process of writing about famous Gunslinger Jim Boy Calloway, who is passed out drunk on the bar; apparently not for the first time. Because Levin can’t get much information out of Calloway, he asks us to travel the country and speak to other famous outlaws, who once have crossed paths with him. They should ideally give us some statements and pose for a photo – if they refuse, they shall die if necessary. Levin hands us a camera and four pictures of the people we should find.

They will get marked on your map, once you have inspected the photos and their backsides. To do so, open your satchel by holding :right: .

You can approach them in any order you like. Down below they are listed from west to east.

Part I – Flaco Hernandez

Hernandez is located quite a bit to the north near the frozen Cairn Lake. He will be in his cabin – while some of his men are outside.

There is no direct way to speak to Hernandez – either kill or threaten his gang-members to draw him out.

Not very surprising – he is not in the mood for chatter about other gunslingers, but wants a duel.

Levin asked us to take some photos of the four gunslingers as well. Hold :l1: to open the Weapon Wheel, press :r1: to switch to the Item-section and choose the camera to the right side. Cheese!

Part I – Emmet Granger

Next up a weird Hill-Billy. He will be on his own on his farm next to his pigs and will not attack – simply approach him to start the conversation.

He says that he will reveal some information about the old days, if we shovel away some pig crap into the wheelbarrow. Arthur has done worse in his life and agrees.

But it turns out that Granger does not keep his promise and just wanted us to work a bit for him. Arthur is not amused by this and plants some dynamite in the huge pile of crap, covering most of the property and Granger himself in brown rain.

Of course, this will lead to another quick duel. Once defeated, remember to take a picture for the collection.

Part I – Billy Midnight

Billy Midnight was last regularly seen around the Rhodes Train station. Speak to the clerk and he will reveal that Midnight should be on one of the next two trains. Wait outside and board the first train that arrives.

Midnight will be in the last wagon, at the bar and is another candidate who doesn’t want to speak with us. He runs off and we have to follow him through the train and onto its roofs.

At the very and, another duel is inevitable. Do what you have to do: kill and document it.

Part I – Black Belle

Our final encounter will be with Black Belle, who currently resides in a large house in the Bayou noth of Saint Denis. She is still on the run and already expects a bounty hunter to show up at one time or another.

While we arrive, a large number of bounty hunters arrive from all sides and we decide to fight alongside here. There will be roughly 30 enemies to kill, so you should stay in cover on the platform instead of heading out into the mud. Staying on the platform also gives a much better view of the whole scene.
Once finished, Belle decides that it is time to move on, but gladly tells us a bit about the old days and poses for a photo. Finally someone alive!

Part II

The final Parts of the mission strand can only be played, if you have completed the Chapter 4 mission “A Fine Night of Debauchery”. So you likely have to wait quite a bit, after having dealt with the four persons above.

Once the mission icon pops up, head to the Valentine Saloon once again. The bartender says that Calloway was last seen in Saint Denis. That would be our next destination then.

Part III

Calloway and Levin are located on a large boat in the south-east of Saint Denis.

Arthur does not have a problem with Levin’s suggestion to give the credit for the kills to Calloway, but he declines to do so. Arthur suggests that Calloway should literally have a shot at another famous gunslinger to prove to himself that he is not totally useless. Galloway remembers his former arch enemy Slim Grant, now a Sheriff in the north.

Part IV

First stop would be the Sheriff’s Office in Annesburg.

His Deputy says that Grant went out to hunt some bounties a few days ago and should be west of the village.

Grant is indeed at the marked spot, tied to a tree and guarded by a few outlaws. Kill them, throw him on the back of your horse and ride to the arranged meeting point a bit to the north.

Grant refuses to fight Calloway and walks away. Calloway shoots him in the back, killing him.

Calloway has turned mad and wants to fight us as well. Arthur declines but has no other choice than to kill Calloway.

Levin is actually quite relieved that he doesn’t have to spend more time around Calloway and has a good ending to his book, in which he simply wants to depict the two gunslingers killing each other simultaneously.

This concludes the “The Noblest of Men, and a Woman” Stranger Mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). For all other Stranger Missions check out the full Red Dead Redemption 2 Stranger Missions Walkthrough.

Does it possible to shoot gunslingers in their arms and not kill them? Because with grey-dot strangers’ duels you can disarm them instead of killing?

i know its been months, but i shot calloway in his legs and he still died. and i had killed Granger before getting the mission by tieing him up and feeding him to his pigs (which apparently you can do).

It is possible but does not matter. A couple of them will just continue to fight you with a different weapon and one will actually take out a second gun and shoot himself.

    *SPOILERS*

Do you have to [REDACTED] to start this mission because I’m trying to start [REDACTED] but it doesn’t show up.

No, that doesn’t matter. It’s available in chapter 2 already. However, do check at different daytimes. Sometimes the icon goes away. Sleeping in the Valentine hotel can make it reappear.

Hey Pyx, I’m in Chapter 3, and have just completed the two missions between the two families, am I still able to trigger this Stranger mission in Valentine?

Yes you can still do it at any later point (including after the story).
