Red Dead Redemption 2 Pouring Forth Oil – IV Walkthrough

October 28, 2018 by Jack McBastard 7 Comments

Pouring Forth Oil – IV is the 19th main story mission in Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2). This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of Pouring Forth Oil – IV Main Quest including all Gold Medals for 100% completion.

Pouring Forth Oil – IV is unlocked when you complete Pouring Forth Oil – II.

Quest Giver: John Marston
Chapter: 2
Region: Lemoyne

Gold Medal Requirements:

  • Kill all the train guards before Sean fires a shot
  • Clear the baggage car of loot
  • Escape the Law within 1 minute 30 seconds
  • Get 10 kills in Dead Eye
  • Complete the mission without taking any health items

Starting Location: Dewberry Creek, Lemoyne

Meet at Dewberry Creek

Return to Dewberry Creek and you’ll find Sean waiting around, wanting to be brought on the heist. This is a terrible idea. Somehow everyone thinks this, however he manages to come along anyhow. John and Charles show up at nightfall, and you set off for the ambush location.

Drive the oil wagon to the ambush point. Arthur will climb on top of the wagon, while the others wait in hiding.

Ambush the Train

Once the train stops, jump down and move quickly to the passenger car where Marston is already relieving the passengers of their valuables.

Occasionally there will be a passenger who gets brave, or refuses to hand over their money. Focus on them and beat the passenger to convince them to cooperate.

Follow John closely as he moves to the next car, beating anyone who needs it. When you get to the third passenger car, move past Marston and run down the aisle until you reach Sean.

Sean moves into the baggage car, and immediately gets pistol-whipped by a train guard. Use Dead Eye to kill him quickly without hitting Sean.

  • GOLD MEDAL: Kill all the train guards before Sean fires a shot
  • GOLD MEDAL: Get 10 kills in Dead Eye
  • GOLD MEDAL: Complete the mission without taking any health items

There will be a second guard that appears on the roof above him. Quickly kill him with Dead Eye as well.

There will also be a third and fourth train guard who rush into the baggage car, which you should again finish off with Dead Eye.

Sean may have recovered by now, but hopefully you’ve gotten all four before he has, fulfilling the gold medal requirement.

Rob the Baggage

  • GOLD MEDAL: Clear the baggage car of loot

You now have to quickly steal everything in the baggage car

  • Everything in the Cabinet behind the door to the left
  • Fine Brandy on the shelf to the right
  • Everything in the green Cabinet to the left below the mail slots
  • Everything in the raised cabinet to the right above the sorting bags
  • Everything in the chest on the right near the back door

If you’ve moved quickly killing the train guards and robbing the passengers, you can completely loot the baggage car before the reinforcements arrive. A cinematic will play during which you will move out onto the flatbed car and get into cover, preparing for a fight. There will be a lot of them, to make up the remaining six Dead Eye kills you need. Be sure to stay in cover too, so that you do not take Health damage since you can’t use healing items.

When you’ve killed all of the first wave, a second wave of mounted lawmen will ride in from the northeast. Change cover to the other side, and continue to kill using Dead Eye.

When the last enemy has fallen, John will call for everyone to run. Call your horse over, and run like the wind.

Escape the Law

  • GOLD MEDAL: Escape the Law within 1 minute 30 seconds

Looking at your mini-map, you can see what direction the reinforcements will be coming from. You have to evade the lawmen long enough to get out of the red search area on your map.

The easiest way to do this is to just ride northwest along the railroad tracks until you’re clear.

Watch the ending cinematic, and the mission is over.

This finishes Pouring Forth Oil – IV main mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now the next quest We Loved Once and True – III starts.

Next Up: We Loved Once and True – III

The dead eye meter is barely enough to kill 10 enemies, and you don’t have any supplies to refill it. My suggestion is, get enough chewing tobaccos, make a manual save BEFORE the mission, and get the gold medal in your “first” try.

Yeah I’m not sure how this got in there (it was from catching a fish if anybody wonders). Thanks for pointing that out, it’s fixed now.

Just got the gold medal after replaying.
Use deadeye on the first 4 guards (you’ll find you have next to none left after this).
Quickly get all the items in the baggage cabin.
As soon as you’re in control after the cut scene has ended drink the brandy (as it only gives you stamina and deadeye).
Get your other headshots. Now what i did because i ran out of deadeye again was (after each headshot you’ll get a very tiny amount of deadeye back) line up the headshot, quickly activated deadeye and shot as soon as I could whilst it was activated.
    Hope this helps.
