A Quick Favor for an Old Friend is unlocked after completing A New Jerusalem.
Quest Giver: Uncle
Chapter: Epilogue – Part 2
Region: West Elizabeth
Gold Medal Requirements:
- Force Cortez’s men to flee from Rhodes within 30 seconds
- Get 5 headshots while covering Sadie with a long scoped rifle
- Get 4 hip fire kills
- Complete the mission without taking any health items
Starting Location: Beecher’s Hope, West Elizabeth
Talk to Uncle
After discussion with Uncle, its decided that the land at Beecher’s Hope is good for grazing and not much else. For livestock, you need a barn, so travel to Blackwater with Uncle to talk to Albert Cakes again. Just as you’re wondering how to pay for said barn, along comes Sadie Adler with another bounty opportunity.
Ride to Painted Sky on the trail of Ramón Cortez.
- GOLD MEDAL: Complete the mission without taking any health items
You investigate the barn, and of course Cortez jumps out and ambushes you. I don’t know why this trick works every time.
Knock Cortez out, and toss him on Sadie’s horse. Then follow Sadie to Rhodes.
When you get to Rhodes, pick up Cortez and dump him in a cell at the Sheriff’s office.
You will have to hang around Rhodes until the Sheriff’s men arrive to take Cortez to Saint Denis. Unfortunately Cortez’s men arrive first, and there sure are a lot of them. Go into Dead Eye to kill four guys outside the door immediately.
- GOLD MEDAL: Force Cortez’s men to flee from Rhodes within 30 seconds
- GOLD MEDAL: Get 4 hip fire kills
Next run west down the street and kill any four guys with hip fire. There will be other opportunities later in the mission if you don’t happen to get 4 right away.
After you make Cortez’s men flee, you’ll hear an explosion at the Sheriff’s office that I’m sure is nothing to worry about.
Well… crap. Looks like Ramón Cortez is back on the menu. Lucky you managed to negotiate some extra funds for your trouble.
Follow Sadie to Dewberry Creek where you find Cortez and his men. From the roof of a wooden barn, you have a serviceable sniper nest that gives you a clear line of sight down the river bed to cover Sadie.
- GOLD MEDAL: Get 5 headshots while covering Sadie with a long scoped rifle
Also, if you can kill guys before Sadie does, so much the better for you. Steal that kill!
Your first shot will alert four goons at the fire further up. Use Dead Eye to headshot them all before they run for cover.
Also watch out for any men on the sides of the creek shooting down at Sadie, not to mention any reinforcements that stream under the bridge towards her. There will be many more targets than necessary to get you to five headshots.
When Sadie calls out to you to come down, hop to it.
If you haven’t yet gotten all of your hip-fire kills, now’s the time to do it.
However, if you do have your hip-fire kills already, feel free to use Dead Eye to cut down the densely packed groups of targets and conserve your health.
Follow Sadie down the creek bed, taking out enemies until you reach the lakeside. Cortez will be attempting to make a getaway by boat, but if you aim your sniper rifle at him you can convince him to turn around and come back rather than being shot.
The arrest of Ramón Cortez, take two.
Before you can take Cortez back to Rhodes, you’ll have to deal with a final wave of enemies that come down the hill towards you. With your back to the lake, you have no choice but to fight. Once they’re taken care of however, toss Cortez on Sadie’s horse and ride back to Rhodes. This time there are no surprises, and you get your money safely.
This finishes A Quick Favor for an Old Friend main mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. Now the next quest Uncle’s Bad Day starts.
