They Won’t Go When I Go is a Side Job in Cyberpunk 2077 (CP77). This walkthrough will guide you through all steps of the They Won’t Go When I Go Side Quest.
Area: Westbrook (Japantown)
Quest Giver: Rachel
Requirement: Complete Side Job “There is a Light That Never Goes Out“, wait 12 in-game hours for Rachel to call you
Reward: €$Money (Depending on whether the braindance was considered successful or not, Rachel takes a really long time to send it to you)
Mission Info: Well, whaddaya know. This corpo-slut from the crucifixion BD wants you to come back to give her star a pep talk, massage his fucking shoulders and whatnot. Normally I’d tell you to drop it, find something more fun to do, but… I dunno, seems like this Jesus freak could really use your help.
Objectives:
- Talk to Rachel
- Talk to Vasquez
- Go inside the braindance studio
- Talk to Rachel
- Talk to Joshua Stephenson
- Help Joshua record the BD
- Take the hammer and nail
- Nail Joshua to the cross
- Raise the cross
- Stay with Joshua until he dies
- Talk to Rachel
This job is part of a questline, make sure you don’t fail any of these as it would void the next quest: Sinnerman > There is a Light That Never Goes Out > They Won’t Go When I Go.
Starting Location: They Won’t Go When I Go
Talk to Rachel
After at least 12 in-game hours have passed from finishing the prior job, Rachel will call you and ask you to come to the braindance studio. If you tell her no then the job just ends right here, so you should agree to go.
Talk to Vasquez
Go up to the studio gate and speak to Vasquez, and he’ll send you through and tell you what door in the lot to go into.
Go inside the braindance studio
Last building on the left, wait for the security guard to let you inside.
Talk to Rachel
Rachel is inside speaking to someone, then directs you back to speak with Joshua.
Talk to Joshua Stephenson
IMPORTANT: This “[Sit]” dialogue with Joshua is the last important dialogue for determining whether the braindance is successful or not. 2 of the 4 are considered “BAD” options, and picking either of them counts 2 towards the background counter from the prior job. So if you had picked two bad options in the prior job, then pick one of the bad options now, it would put the counter to 4 and the braindance would fail.
- “This is crazy, don’t do it” > Bad
- “Stay strong, you can do it” > Good
- “Got pure intentions, but this isn’t the way to act on them.” > BAD
- “You’re a true rebel, a true revolutionary.” > Good
After that dialogue Joshua asks you if you want to pray or not, which the choice of doesn’t matter. Finally, he asks whether you want to participate in the braindance recording with him.
- If you choose to participate you directly perform the actions of the recording, which gives some unique dialogue from both Johnny and V.
- If you choose just to watch someone else performs the actions and you just sit through it in a chair. Whether you participate or not doesn’t change the outcome or your rewards.
- If you chose not to watch then the job just ends right now and you get the rewards the same from Rachel later.
Help Joshua record the BD
Follow Joshua out into the other room. If you chose just to watch, you interact with the chair in the middle to wait through the recording.
Take the hammer and nail
Pick up the hammer and nail from the table to the left.
Nail Joshua to the cross
Interact with both of Joshua’s arms and legs to nail him to the cross.
Raise the cross
Interact with the nearby button to raise the cross.
Stay with Joshua until he dies
Wait in the room for Joshua to pass away.
Talk to Rachel
Speak to Rachel at the back of the room. Whatever you say to her doesn’t matter, the job will be complete. She will call you in the future and send you your reward dependent on whether the braindance was a success or not (this seems to take a really long time, don’t worry too much about it the reward isn’t huge even if the braindance was a success).
This finishes They Won’t Go When I Go side quest job in Cyberpunk 2077 (CP77).

Fantaman says
Honestly this quest was kind of fucked up, you give me this obviously broken guy taken advantage of and I can’t even help him out of it?
And you make me NAIL him and watch him die?
The Professor says
I have to admit, the quest is fucked up, but it sorta gets the point across. Do also note that they could have made it WAAAY worse. I have a feeling they left out the fact that Jesus was flogged with a cat and nine tails, had a crown of thorns pressed onto his head(Note: The plant theorized to have been used is Euphorbia milii, which has thorns that can grow up to 30mm or 1.18 inches), and had to carry his cross a long way, and also had a spear thrust into his side during the actual crucifixion.
Also they made this quest end a LOT quicker. Its thought that it actually took Jesus 6-8 hours to die due partly to blood loss and dehydration, but mostly due to asphyxiation. Spear + Flogging + being hung from your hands tends to do that.
So yeah. Pretty bad, but a watered down comparison to the real thing.
