Coin Operated Boy is a Side Job in Cyberpunk 2077 (CP77). This walkthrough will guide you through all steps of the Coin Operated Boy Side Quest.
Area: Westbrook (Japantown)

Requirement: Complete Main Job “Playing for Time”

Mission Info: All right, so I’m feeling like a sucker for this story. Do you really think Brendan is just spitting out the sentences it was programmed for? The stuff some marketing guru thinks customers want to hear? That’d be pretty fucked even by Night City standards. In any case, we won’t know until you find him.

I can see clearly now
Brendan is a seemingly sentient vending machine, that can be found directly to the right of the steps of Megabuilding H8 in Japantown.
He has a few different events that you can engage in when there’s a Side Job marker on the map. In the first one where you directly interact with him, he asks you to push a trash bin out from in front of him so he can see the road better. You need 4 BODY attribute to move it.
If you want to trigger the next event with Brendan now, you can fast travel away using the nearby terminal, skip time forward 24 hours, then fast travel back.
Ask about Theo
Next time you come back, Brendan will be talking with a girl named Theo. After she leaves speak to Brendan.
Spray paint
The third time you come back, there will be a person vandalizing Brendan. You can wait for them to talk to you and scare them off, or just grab them immediately and knock them out, then speak to Brendan again.
Talk to Theo
The fourth time you come back, Brendan will be gone and you will find Theo standing in his spot crying. Ask her where he went, and she’ll let you know about the service location he was apparently taken to.
Go to the service point
The service point will be marked on your map in a location in the Glen.
Talk to the clerk [Optional]
At the service location go inside, and you can speak to the clerk and ask about Brendan.
You can bribe the clerk or show him you know what you’re doing with 15 TECHNICAL ABILITY, or force your way through the door to the right. If you force your way through the door, you need to deal with a turret.
Talk to Brendan
In the next room, respond to Brendan how you want. There isn’t a way to stop him from being updated.
Talk to Theo
After you are finished talking to Brendan and he gets updated, go back to Megabuilding H8 and let Theo know what happened to him to complete this job.

Just FYI for anyone else confused as to why they have no side quest marker, it looks like you first have to witness/overhear a conversation between Brendan and his engineer. Then if you travel away and sleep, wait, or do some other quest you’ll get a new unidentified side quest marker on your map for this quest after.

Sad quest. Wish there was a way to save him or have his AI transferred to your vending machine in your otherwise worthless apartment. But hey, what do I know.

Or better yet, overwrite Skippy! Or instead upload him into the Relic shard so him Johnny and yourself can all go mad together can send each other loopy as well as sending yourself nuts/ slowly as your EVERYTHING is slowly overwritten. Yay!

I think I might have been too high during those last couple Brendan missions — plus it was awhile ago — but I could have sworn that Brendan himself told me that he was due to be taken away. He offered to tell one last joke. Did that line actually happen right before he gets updated, or did the game itself get an update where these missions where altered?
